VW Caddy 1.9 L TDI Fuel Filter Change Procedure 12. Replace the Widow Washer Bottle top and check all fittings Check everything you have done and turn the starter key in the first position. You should hear the fuel pump in the tank. Leave it like this for a few minutes. 13. Check for leaks. If there are no leaks try and start the engine. You may find it takes several attempts to start the engine. If the engine does not start at the third attempt wait a minute and try again. If you keep cranking over the engine the centre screen in the dashboard will tell you to STOP. You probably had too much air in the Fuel Filter and fuel lines. 14. Go through step 12 and 13 again.
