Dear Parent/Carer English Faculty – Christmas holidays GCSE revision workshops on English Literature Paper 1 Exploring Texts We are now very near to the examination on 9 January 2013. With this in mind, I would like to offer your son the opportunity to attend an English Literature revision workshop on Friday 4 January and Monday 7 January (afternoon only). The session on 4 January will run as follows: 9.30-10.15 10.30-11.15 11.30-12.15 12.30-1.15

An Inspector Calls/Martyn Pig Revision of key characters and themes An Inspector Calls/Martyn Pig Examination technique – how to write a 45 minute question Of Mice and Men Examination technique – how to write two 20 minute answers. Writing an examination answer plus feedback

If you would like your son to participate in these revision sessions I would be grateful if you could fill in the slip below and ask your son to return it to me by the morning of Friday 21 December. We are offering this workshop on a ‘first come, first served’ basis as there are limited spaces available. Therefore, it is important that if your son would like to attend then we must receive the slip by this date. Your son will have already begun his revision for this examination. He should be re-reading Of Mice and Men and Inspector Calls/Martyn Pig as it is vital that he is able to find quotations at speed. Revision should include active engagement with his class notes on characters, themes, language and structural techniques. It is particularly vital that students ensure that they are familiar with the assessment objectives and criteria which relate to the different grade bands. In addition to this we are offering a revision session on the afternoon only of Monday 7 January, beginning at 2 pm and ending at 3.40 pm. Again, this is on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. On that afternoon students will be able to opt into a session on one of the set texts. I would be grateful if you could also indicate on the form if your son will be able to attend this session. If you have any queries then please do not hesitate to contact me. Yours faithfully
