Congratulations to all on your achievements. It has not been an easy year for business, as we have intimately witnessed working with our clients, although, of course there are always exceptions. Some who have previously appeared on the lists have been casualties of a recession of historic proportions. Our community has been particularly hard hit. It can be demoralizing being Greg Snell battered by the seemingly endless barrage of bad news. But we have not been demoralized by what we’ve seen, we’ve been inspired. Business leaders we have helped have met the challenge. They are working harder and smarter than they ever have before. There is perceptibly, and justifiably, a sense of pride among them in dealing relatively well with the adversity, even if the rewards now are not what they used to be. Entrepreneurial spirit is thriving as many have begun new ventures as a substitute for what they were doing or have transformed an old business into a better model. Even in the depths of these difficulties optimism and enthusiasm abound.

s we look forward to the new year, I think we have to look back first. It has been said that he who ignores history is destined to relive it. I’m certain that none of us wants to do that again. The worst economy since the Great Depression. Unemployment numbers that rose and stayed there. Assets of all types suffered significant reductions in value. Most of our business clients had sales and payroll declines. Those numbers translate into lower liability and workers comp premiums, but these businesses lost good employees that most will not be able to rehire. This may be their biggest loss of all. Our individual clients also suffered. Lost jobs, reduced hours and pay reductions were all too common for many. Reduced retirement funds for those that

Not only do we attempt to assist clients in offering value but we strive ourselves to provide them with value. Value, of course, isn’t necessarily about price. In our business we believe value is provided by counseling clients on how to deal with a situation in the manner that is best for them. Not for us — for them. That’s pretty much what it’s all about. Clients want to know their options and what they will cost. They don’t want wasted time, effort and expense. Nobody likes an unpleasant surprise, such as an unexpected large bill. We understand. For All Your Insurance Needs… Our Top Ten Recent Successes More New Notable Successes

Our Action Reviewed 3 business owner’s OLD workers comp policies. Our experience tells us that 2 of 3 businesses have overcharges in their workers comp policies (3 of 4 in construction). The policies reviewed were OLD policies. We were asked to look at a claim that had been denied by a prospect. We did not have this client’s business. This was a pollution claim which are almost always excluded. We did an exhaustive policy review of this business’ policies. Local non-profit felt there was something wrong with their workers comp audit. We did a review of their audit. Existing client had a vehicle stolen. Company denied the claim. We intervened.

High Net Worth client asked us to review all their personal insurance because the only people from his agency they ever saw were company inspectors.

Our Results One business was done correctly. NOTE: this business missed a significant savings because they came to us after the time limit to correct the overcharge had expired. We found overcharges averaging 14% on the other 2 businesses. Imagine getting a lump sum of thousands of dollars on dead policies. These businesses were thrilled! We found that the adjuster had applied an inapplicable exclusion. We notified the company; they reviewed our analysis and agreed that they made an error. The business owner received $7,000 from the company on a claim that was denied 2 year earlier! The business owner was so impressed that we now have all his business. We found 2 overcharges resulting in a $6,000 check to this nonprofit business. The insurance company’s errors included failure to follow Florida workers comp rules, which we corrected. Our review indicated the company relied on an exclusion that was not applicable. The client was then paid based on our review, but received less than what we expected. We reviewed the claim again and discovered that the company made in incorrect deduction. We went back to the company and showed them their error which gave the insured an additional $2,500. We found that there was no wind or theft coverage on his home, nor did they have any coverage for their extensive collections. We saved them over $3,000. They became client and asked us to take over their business insurance also.
