Accounting for Business The AAT Level 2, 3 and 4 Accounting Qualifications are internationally recognised qualifications that are based on practical, real-world accounting knowledge you can put to use from day one. The AAT qualification is recognised and respected by employers and provides students with excellent and secure career prospects for both employment and self-employment. You do not require any previous qualifictions or work experience to begin AAT programmes although you must be employed within an appropriate job role on the commencement of an Apprenticeship. Progression from the AAT course could be on to Chartered Accountancy studies through professional bodies such as ACCA or ICAEW. Your AAT qualification provides exemption from certain exams at this level of study.

The AAT Level 2 covers a range of basic

accounting tasks. This ranges from costing and double entry bookkeeping to computerised accounting. It’s ideal for those new to working in finance. Most learners will start at this level.

The AAT Level 3 introduces more complex accounting tasks, such as maintaining cost accounting records and the preparation of reports and returns.

The AAT Level 4 covers higher level accounting tasks, including drafting financial statements, managing budgets and evaluating financial performance. On achievement of Level 4, the full AAT Accounting Qualification is achieved. With evidence of one year’s relevant work experience, full membership of AAT is awarded and the designatory letters MAAT may be used.
