PRESS RELEASE

The Residences at W Hollywood Select Interior Designer Christopher Grubb To Create Ultimate Urban Penthouse Grubb transforms the penthouse into an urban “playhouse” for the fun-loving owner (Beverly Hills, CA, July 2, 2013) The Residences at W Hollywood, the residential component of the $350 million W Hollywood hotel, selected Beverly Hills Interior Designer, and president and founder of Arch-Interiors Design Group Christopher Grubb to create his interpretation of an urban “playhouse” worthy of the chicly upscale “W lifestyle.”

Perched 12 stories above Hollywood and Vine, Suite 12G designed by Christopher Grubb focuses on fun

“We selected Christopher Grubb to bring that ‘wow’ factor into penthouse 12G,” explains Ron Barnes, sales and marketing director at The Residences at W Hollywood. He expounds, “As a top Los Angeles designer and style maker, Christopher is recognized internationally for his distinctive luxury design perspective. His ‘playhouse’ concept with creative features, including a putting green, is one of my favorites at The Residences at W Hollywood. It transforms space meant for a bedroom into a room for recreation, and it delights and inspires our discerning clientele with lively, unexpected touches.” Perched 12 stories above the corner of Hollywood and Vine, the suite features a versatile living area with movable furnishings that are easily reconfigured for various types of gatherings. It also offers easy access to an open kitchen, which is ideal for entertaining, while still intimate enough to allow mingling with one’s guests. A lavishly appointed game room highlights the suite’s recreational design focus.

Penthouse terrace offers the complete indoor/ outdoor experience

Throughout the suite, Grubb included luminous elements, such as twinkling aluminum tile, wallpaper with subtle shimmer, glimmering Balinese seashells,

and unique lighting—all meant to convey the glitter of Tinseltown. Overall, he used a palette of grays, black, and beiges, and infused pops of color, such as vibrantly hued, hand-blown pendant lighting above the bar and citrus shaded seating on the terrace for added drama. For distinctiveness, Grubb chose custom elements and insisted on deluxe materials, such as textured woods, richly finished built-ins, velvet sofas, and linen gaming chairs to create a unique atmosphere that combines classic opulence with hip modernity.

Swapping sleep for play, Grubb transformed the bedroom into a game room

“I wanted to create something extraordinary and unexpected that would speak to those seeking a youthful, cool, urban experience,” states Grubb, noting the suite’s ideal occupant is someone who desires a grownup version of a child’s playhouse. “While another resident might place emphasis on a lavish bedroom, the owner of penthouse 12G is someone who lives for entertainment. They possess both the desire, and the means, to be playful and bold,” he says, pointing specifically to the bedroom, which is transformed into a gaming room. GAME ROOM Grubb explains that they wanted to place more emphasis on play than on sleeping, so he turned the bedroom into a gaming room, with pullout sofas placed in the living room satisfying the owner’s inescapable need for sleep. Instead of a bed, the centerpiece of the former bedroom-turned-gameroom is a custom designed game table with a stunning starburst center, which is ideal for poker or blackjack, as well as a formal dining setting. Four flat screen televisions allow guests to simultaneously follow different shows or sporting events. And because no party or get-together is complete without festive foods and beverages, an oversized cantilevered buffet sits below the flat screens.

Reflecting the glitz and glamour of the star-studded streets below, the game room sparkles. Grubb covered two columns in the space with shimmering Balinese seashell. Grass cloth-style paper adds a hint of metallic to the ceiling, and a crystal chandelier sparkles by day and gleams warmly by night. Grubb replaced closet doors with neutral mohair theater-style

drapes, and installed the wallpaper horizontally for an overall linear emphasis.

Overlooking the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the terrace continues the suite’s focus on fun with the unit’s most unexpected feature—a putting green. It not only reinforces the “playhouse” concept, but also adds a sense of nature in a decidedly urban setting. Sustainable outdoor chairs in canary yellow offer terrace seating, and a contemporary outdoor fireplace enhances the sense of modern whimsy. The deck floor was faux finished to match the interior hardwood for a complete indoor/outdoor experience. LIVING ROOM A flexible space with amazing views, the living room features interesting textures and comfortable furnishings. A pair of matching sofas and ottomans, along with a custom-designed cluster of octagon tables, great for stools or seating, which allows the room to be configured multiple ways. Grubb designed a spectacular built-in bookcase for displaying and storage, and incorporated a contemporary, reflecting silver, full-wall silhouette graphic of the Los Angeles skyline. Additional highlights include a projector and 110-inch screen with concealed in-wall surround sound speaker system, perfect for watching anything from the Oscars to the Super Bowl. KITCHEN The open-plan kitchen features espresso finished, European styled cabinets. For contrast, Grubb used three-dimensional aluminum tile on the backsplash and bar front. He incorporated clear acrylic stools around the bar for an unobstructed view of the beautifully textured tile. Suspended above the bar, three one-of-a-kind glass pendants serve as art, while incorporating fun stripes of orange, blue, green, and yellow. The compact kitchen is jam-packed with appliances made for entertaining, such as a wine refrigerator and dishwasher drawers. BATHROOMS A glamorous powder room features a vanity from The C.G.
