Common Anime Sources (in no particular order): • • • • • • • •

Dragonball Z – Shallow but shamelessly loved action series with epic plot arcs. Causes many Linkin Park videos. Naruto – The new answer to Dragonball Z. Similar effect on the AMV world, though currently better received. Neon Genesis Evangelion – Mecha and mindfuck show. Often used; most successfully in mixed source videos. Cowboy Bebop – Mishmash of Sci-fi, Noir, Western, Yakuza with heavy Jazz tones. Inspires similarly genreconscious videos and touching characer profiles alike. Inu Yasha, Yu Yu Hakusho – huge amounts produced and yet few have notoriety in the mostly male amv peerage. These videos, predominantly by girls, have a much more 'vidder' methodology and focus on character studies. Hellsing – Style-over substance modern vampire hunter show. For videos, expect white flashes, heavy rock or metal music (often german in origin) and lots of gore as this is the quintessential action/horror source. Ghibli Movies – For videos, expect sentimentality and cross-movie inspired homages. Love Hina, Golden Boy et al – Harem shows with one often dorky loser guy and girls of every clichéd physique and age. For videos expect slapstick, panty shots and bouncing-breast humour.
