Feb 2013 In only four months, newly-acquired regional business unit, Jebsen & Jessen Offshore (JJOFS - formerly Halcyon Offshore) has successfully integrated into the Group’s SAP system. About the Masthead The Mackerel masthead subtly combines graphic images of the compass, sky and vast ocean to symbolise our sea-faring tradition and growth to become a leading distribution, manufacturing and engineering group in South East Asia. The ripples reflect the expanding and international character of our organisation and the communication function of this newsletter.

In our nearly 50-year history, the JJOFS integration is the largest the Group has implemented. Acquired in June 2012, the new regional business unit began the SAP project in August. On January 1,2013,70 SAP users at JJOFS went live and the business unit’s 500 staff appeared on the Group’s intranet. Come February 7, JJOFS closed the books for January on the new system – two weeks ahead of its usual schedule. The People Make the Process The scale of the project included implementing six of SAP’s modules for four entities, which meanwhile, had been restructured into two companies, while adhering to our Group-wide accounting, finance and HR policies. With the framework established, master data needed to be prepared for uploading. In parallel, many new users had to be trained to begin work on a new system.

Ms Chris Tan, Group Director – ITC, paid testimony to the hard work put in by the users and management of JJOFS as well as the corporate IT team. “The dedication of the staff involved, the willingness to learn and to put in the time needed ensured that we met our ambitious time frame.” Continuing the Good Work With the majority of the work complete, the team is now implementing the new system at JJOFS’ subsidiary Cables International, which is due to go live at the beginning of May. The CRM module is planned to be fully implemented across JJOFS in 2013. For all modules, training and troubleshooting support is enabling users to learn how to get the most from the system. Making an Impact on Business Mr Quak Jin Chan, General Manager – Operations, led the project at JJOFS. He commented: “SAP definitely improves our management and operational efficiency by increasing the accuracy, transparency and timeliness of data. We are now able to respond to information across functions more quickly. Having successfully implemented SAP, we look forward to exploring and optimising our use of the system.”

First Specialist Hospitality IP Solution in the Region

First MHE-Demag Project in New Zealand

Jebsen & Jessen Communications delivers the sector’s first full IP telephony solution

Material Handling market leader supplies specialist crane for Pacific Steel Group

By Able Tan, Singapore

By F K Ng, Malaysia

Dec 2012 Jebsen & Jessen Communications (JJC) has implemented the first specialist hospitality full IP telephony solution in South East Asia for its client, Pan Pacific Singapore. Leading the market, JJC’s Avaya solution has delivered significant cost reductions, increased customer satisfaction, enhanced manageability and improved staff productivity.

Oct 2012 MHE-Demag successfully manufactured and delivered its first crane in New Zealand to Pacific Steel Group, a division of Fletcher Building. Pacific Steel Group is the country’s largest metal recycler, converting around 300,000 tonnes of scrap metal per year.

“JJC has been our technology partner since 2004, and is extremely familiar with our company and the way we work,” explained Mr Tsi Lip Siong,Vice President - Information Technology at Pan Pacific Hotels Group. “We were confident that JJC’s consultants would deliver the most relevant technology infrastructure to complement all the other aspects of Pan Pacific Singapore’s transformation.”

Mr Tarik Alkhalil, Regional Manager - Cranes & Components at MHE-Demag, said: “This project came to us because we are able to deliver highly technical solutions which cater to the tough operational demands and exacting design standards within the country. By delivering on these challenging requirements, we develop a solid reputation that spreads beyond our home region and brings the name MHE-Demag to all corners of Asia Pacific”.

The new integrated, IP-based, hospitality enablement suite was installed within tight timeline requirements, resulting in immediate savings from running voice communications over the data network instead of a separate PABX system. Each hotel room is now equipped with advanced voicemail and wakeup call function, guests can make requests through one-touch services, shortening the request cycle and reducing the rate of human error. In addition, Comdasys mobility software allows employees to BYOD (bring your own device). This eliminates mobile communications costs and the need for a fixed line phone and dedicated desk for every back-of-house associate, reducing costs and increasing employee work satisfaction.

MHE-Demag successfully delivered the specially designed hot metal crane to New Zealand’s Pacific Steel Group.

MHE-Demag’s specially designed hot metal crane was delivered to replace an existing 1961-built crane. The new crane has a capacity of 100/30 tonnes with M8 mechanism class for both the main and auxiliary hoist and a five-tonne M6 monorail maintenance hoist. The crane is a critical part of the customer’s reinforcing bar and wire rod production process. The crane is equipped with many safety features including 100% redundant rope reeving, emergency overspeed brakes acting on the rope drums, an intelligent anti-sway system and load cells with an accuracy of +/-1%. The crane drives incorporate the latest PLC technology for efficient functioning.

Group Joins Myanmar’s First Manufacturing Exhibition

Can you share some of the key features in this system? WUT: The timeline feature records data and generates reports to help us manage the service performance of each field technician. For example, it records the travelling time, waiting time and job execution time.

MHE-Demag and JJ-Pun exhibit at the event in Yangon By Natasha Golding, Singapore Jan 2013 The very first international manufacturing exhibition in Myanmar took place in Tatmadaw Hall, Yangon. Jebsen & Jessen Group of Companies was represented by local joint venture, JJ-Pun, and material handling brand leader, MHE-Demag. Five thousand visitors attended over the three days, with 100 exhibitors from all over the world. Focused on participants’ key interests, JJ-Pun presented its cables and pumps businesses, whilst building its brand as a distributor of world-class technology across the Group’s eight business units. MHE-Demag’s regional team showcased the brand’s wide ranging products and service portfolio, catering to the needs of this emergent economy’s burgeoning manufacturing sector. Mr K C Foong, Country Manager of MHE-Demag Singapore, who was interviewed by a local television channel, commented: “This exhibition certainly allows us to increase our brand awareness here in Yangon. We look forward to growing our product population in Myanmar.”

The JJ-Pun team enjoyed a successful event at Myanmar’s first manufacturing exhibition.

Jan 2013 Jebsen & Jessen Communications Malaysia (JJCM), in collaboration with Avaya Malaysia, hosted a half-day Technology Update Workshop in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The spare parts inventory function synchronises the tablet with the server on a daily basis to obtain the latest service jobs assigned and update spare parts availability. What are the additional goals you aim to achieve with the implementation of this new technology? CTE: Because information and data can be updated in real-time, we can eliminate redundant paper based processes. In addition, we will be able to use the data for future strategic planning, helping us to achieve a total customer-centric work culture.

The exclusive workshop was organised for Prasarana, a company mandated to transform the country’s public transpor t system. The aim of the workshop was to showcase relevant technology to key decision makers, the programme included Avaya’s Data Network, unified communications and video conferencing solutions. Ms Goh Poh Gan, Managing Director of JJCM, commented: “The integrated range of solutions presented drew keen interest and numerous enquiries from the participants. Workshops such as these provide an excellent platform to offer our solutions to a specific audience, in this case the transportation industry. We look forward to transforming interest into an ongoing customer relationship.”
