Arabic Language and Culture – Level 2 Introduction The course is aimed at Bocconi students enrolled in 3, 2 or 5-year degree programs, the number of places is limited and enrolment is via you@b agenda. It consists of 36 hours in class and is aimed at students who have already attended the Level 1 course or who already have a basic knowledge of the language. The course takes place in the II semester of every academic year and students receive details about enrolling and deadlines in their agendas at the beginning of each term. After the deadline has passed students are sent a message regarding their acceptance/non acceptance on the course. An attendance certificate will be issued to those actively attending at least 75% of the lessons and who pass the final exam. Please note that the course will not be run in the current academic year. Programme The course aims to give students improved language skills compared to Level 1 so that they can: • • • •

Read and understand a simple text in Arabic (comics, letters, newspaper articles, verses) Learn how to use a dictionary Improve listening comprehension using various recorded exercises Revise and consolidate basic grammar and begin examining slightly more complex structures

Conditions for awarding attendance certificate Students must meet two conditions in order to receive this certificate: 1. Positive participation in the course The course teacher will verify this condition subject to students attending at least 75% of the lessons. 2. Passing the final exam There will be an exam at the end of the course testing comprehension of a text and the translation of a paragraph. All students enrolled in the course will receive a message in their agenda confirming the awarding or not of a certificate for attendance which can be picked up from the Language Centre Front-office desk, at times specified in said message.
