SAUGERTIES, NY (FEB. 23): The Tango Cafe and Woodstock Tango present An Evening of Argentine Tango Dancing in honor of the Saugerties First Friday Celebration, Friday, March 1st, 6:30-10:30p at The Tango Cafe, corner of Main & Partition Streets, Saugerties NY. The night begins with an Introduction to Tango Class from 6:30-7:30p, taught by Woodstock Tango founder Ilene Marder, followed by Tango Dancing (with a touch of Latin!) until 10:30pm. The suggested contribution of $5 includes the tango class. No partner or experience necessary! Dinner will be served through the evening including traditional Argentine Empanadas. Starting at 6:30pm, participants will learn how tango is really danced in the clubs of Buenos Aires, Argentina where tango was born. Salon Tango for social dancing is based on Embrace, Connection and Musicality. It is can be learned and danced by any age, and any body type -- anyone who can walk can tango!! Several recent scientific studies have shown that dancing Argentine tango is excellent for your health -- not only physically, but it stimulates brain cells helping to improve memory and a variety of cognitive skills. Ilene Marder has been dancing Argentine Tango and teaching beginners for nearly ten years. A Saugerties resident, she is a popular Tango DJ regularly playing in NYC and throughout the Hudson Valley, and she guest DJ's in Buenos Aires and other major "Tango communities" including Boston, Miami, Chicago, and Toronto. The Tango Cafe is owned and operated by brother and sister duo Emilio and Analia Maya from Argentina. It is a mainstay of downtown Saugerties offering fresh, wholesome and delicious cuisine, including authentic Argentine fare.
