Beatrix Potter and Cumbria - The Lake District – Inspiration and Conservation... Beatrix Potter spent many happy childhood holidays in the Lake District and in 1905 she made it her home. By 1930 she had bought over 4000 acres of farmland with the money she had made from her “little white books”, many of which were inspired by and written in the Lake District. When she died in 1943, she bequeathed her land to the National Trust so that it should remain undeveloped and unspoilt forever. A selection of the key National Trust locations you can visit today are highlighted on this map and include:

• Hill Top Farm – Beatrix Potter’s delightful 17th century I

Directed by Chris Noonan (Babe) and starring Renée Zellweger (Cold Mountain, Bridget Jones’ Diary) and Ewan McGregor (Star Wars, Moulin Rouge!), MISS POTTER is an inspirational love story that follows Beatrix Potter's rise to being the most successful children’s author of all time. Despite delighting generations of children with her books, she kept her own story locked carefully away. Now Oscar-winning star Renée Zellweger is bringing her life to the big screen. Her first book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, was a publishing phenomenon and led to a magical love affair with her publisher Norman Warne (Ewan McGregor).
