Belle Prater’s Boy Culminating Tasks With a partner, please complete one of the following tasks: 1.

Ruth White vividly describes the mountains surrounding Coal Station Virginia. Create an illustrated guide (Smart Board/Powerpoint presentation) that lists/shows the many flowers, plants, and trees that are indigenous to this area of the Appalachian Mountains.

2.

Woodrow tells Mrs. Hart’s science class an easy way to remember the difference between stalagmites and stalactites. Research the most well-known caves in the United States, and create an informational Smart Board/Power Point presentation that includes information about: • • •

well-known caves in the United States stalagmites and stalactites (What are they? How do they form?) spelunking (What is it? How do you become one? What equipment would you use?)

3.

Research one type of music associated with Appalachia (county and western, blues, bluegrass, ballads, etc). Create a informational Smart Board/Power Point presentation to share with the class. Feel free to include examples of your chosen genre of music in your presentation.

4.

Apples, blackberries, and raspberries grow in the area around Coal Station. Make an electronic cookbook of recipes using these fruits and/or foods indigenous to Appalachia. After presenting the electronic cookbook to the class, allow us to taste one of your recipes. In other words, you’ll need to cook/bake something for us to eat!!!

5.

Create a newspaper that summarizes some of the main events in Belle Prater’s Boy. Your paper should include an editorial (hmmm...what’s an editorial?) written by you about an important/controversial event in the novel.

6.

With your partner, create a tableaux that recreates - what you consider to be - the most important moments Belle Prater’s Boy.
