'Arrangements for Atlantic Flight', and operations for re-wiring the wireless, etc. Collected by Percy Maxwell-Muller, works manager and engineer with Vickers Aviation Company, closely involved in the successful first non-stop transatlantic flight on the 14th June 1919, by John Alcock and Arthur Whitten Brown flying from St. John's, Newfoundland, to Clifden, Connemara, in a modified Vickers Vimy bomber. The collection consists of a folder of original photographs. A collection of telegrams, several believed to have been written by Alcock. A letter on Rolls-Royce headed notepaper dated 31st March, 1919, confirming the installation of the engine at Weybridge. A TLs dated 5th April, 1919 regarding the transporting of the aircraft on the ship 'Digby.' A postcard written by Alcock confirming the safe arrival of the party at Halifax, 9th May, 1919, also enquiring when they may expect the arrival of the aircraft. A Wireless Press note , 'Please tell Mr Muller that the Vickers aircraft left Newfoundland at 11.13 pm Greenwich time ... 14/6/19.' Two menu cards signed by Alcock, and one by Brown, also two notes written and signed by Alcock, 'Party arrived here safely this morning. Had a calm voyage let me know when I should expect machine ! Weather very excellent ! Should arrive St Johns Monday morning.' Halifax, May 9th, 1919. Also a menu card for a memorial supper held at the Cafe Royal, held in memory of the Cochrane, and signed by the entire air crew. Three separate letters written and signed by Brown of a technical nature. A signed 5 page typed report by Sir Arthur Brown, 'Report on Wireless Equipment of Vicker-Vimy, used on transatlantic Flight, June 14th-15th 1919.' IMPORTANTLY is included a first-day cover postally stamped 'Trans-Atlantic Air Post, 1919. One Dollar'. The letter included is addressed from The Cochrane, St John's 12th June, 1919, and signed J. Alcock. * Provenence. From the personal papers of Percy Maxwell Muller (1880-1946). He was one of the earliest aircraft engineers to work at the newly built airfield at Brooklands (c1911) where he joined the 'Percival Conspiracy' working on the construction of a fairly primitive biplane known as the 'Ooseley Bird.' In 1913 the project was disbanded and Percy joined the Vickers School of Flying. The outbreak of war in 1914 saw the rapid extension of Vickers from its base at Weybridge, in 1915 the company purchased Brooklands and Percy Maxwell Muller was appointed works manager. At the end of the war he was promoted, and later became General Manager of the Weybridge Works. This was a particularly productive period and in 1928 Vickers (Aviation) Ltd was formed. He retired in 1936, but returned as works manager at Gillett Stephens where he caried out valuable work during World War 11. £4000-£6000 439 . GEORGE V ...( royal signature).
