General contact information: Telephone and fax numbers for questions related to Building Permits. Inspections may be scheduled using the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system by calling 661-5284, by accessing the online Building Inspection System from the City’s web site at www.london.ca or by telephoning our office at 661-4555. Building Permit Number: All correspondence with the Building Division should use this number. You will need to provide the first eight digits of the number to schedule inspections and to access permit records using the IVR (Interactive Voice Response) system or electronically over the internet. Issue Date: This is the date on which the permit was issued and construction could commence. If construction has not been started within 6 months after the issue date, the permit may be revoked and the owner would have to re-apply for another permit to complete the project.

Project Address and Legal Description: This is the address where the construction will take place including the lot number and plan number.

Permit For: Describes the work to be completed, such as Add, Alter, Erect and the building category.

Work Authorized: Lists all the Building Code processes required for the permit, such as plumbing, building, mechanical, etc.

Description of Work: Provides a more detailed description of the work for a particular building type.

Conditions/Restrictions: These are conditions that restrict the extent of construction under the permit. For example, ‘Foundation Only’ means that work cannot proceed beyond the foundation stage.

Owner of the Property: This is the name of the owner of the property. If the ownership changes, the permit holder is to notify the Building Division. A Transfer of Ownership permit will be required.

10 Contractor: This is the name and address of the contractor who will be doing the construction. 10. 11. Mandatory Inspections: This is a list of all the mandatory inspections that must be scheduled and completed for this permit 11 pursuant to Section 10.2 of the Building Code Act. Failure to call in these inspections may result in uncovering completed work or commencement of legal action. Allow 48 hours notice for an inspection as specified by the Building Code. 12. 12 Professional Field Review Letters and Other Reports: Larger buildings require Professional Field review letters. These are reports required to be submitted by architects and/or engineering consultants before the project can be completed. The professionals can submit their final reports to the Building Division by fax to 661-5184 or e-mail to [email protected] prior to the building being occupied. Other reports that may be required include: a) Interim Grading Certificates - These certificates are required to confirm that the underside of the footing elevation complies with the approved plans. The builder is required to have an Ontario Land Surveyor or an engineer certify the interim lot grading. The certificate must be submitted to the Building Division by fax to 661-5184 or by e-mail to [email protected] prior to backfill. b) Soil & Methane Reports - These reports are required from a Geotechnical Engineer to verify the bearing capacity of the soil or if any concentration of methane is present. 13. 13 Your Inspectors: The names of the City of London Building and Plumbing Inspectors assigned to conduct inspections. They may be called to coordinate inspections and clarify inspection results. The PIN for Permit # ________________________ is _________________. You can use the permit and PIN numbers to check the permit status, schedule or cancel inspections and leave messages for inspectors using the Building Permit Inspection System at www.london.ca (E-Services & Maps/Online Services).
