The Board of Directors has experience with a number of global ‘super’ brands. Arbonne develops and manufactures highly-regarded premium products that are healthy, botanically-based and inspired by nature. The products are distributed via a Network Marketing Business Model so whilst the quality of the products is of the very highest calibre (like some other Swissformulated skin care products) their price-point is much lower because the products are not retailed in the traditional manner. CREATING FINANCIAL FREEDOM: THE POWER OF LEVERAGE & RESIDUAL INCOME Financial freedom is about being about to enjoy life without worrying about the cost.
Creating wealth is not taught in schools and although many people dream of becoming wealthy, very few actually take the time to learn the secrets to success or put strategies in place to set themselves up for future financial gain. Most of us are taught to ‘get a good job’ and simply trade our time for money at a rate set by employers who put a value on our time. Essentially there are two ways to achieve financial freedom: Have your money work for you e.g. shares, property etc. (although to make money you need money to start with) Have something or somebody else work for you – leverage! The Power of Leverage Leveraged income is income derived from the efforts of others. Most people today earn a linear income, where they trade their time for money and unfortunately no matter how clever they are or how high their hourly rate is, they are still restricted to the same 24 hours in each day and therefore limited earning potential. In Network marketing we use the power of leverage which allows you to use the time and efforts of others to create an income. RESIDUAL (PASSIVE) INCOME Residual (passive) income is income that is generated from the past efforts of an individual and/or current effort of others e.g. pay given to a performer for re-runs in a film or writing a book or a song where you continue to get paid a royalty each time the book is sold or the song is played. Other avenues to generate a residual income include: Operate a traditional business: This method usually requires a significant financial investment and a good understanding of cash flow, marketing and management skills. Although some may find owning a traditional business rewarding, it can be a risky venture that usually requires a large commitment with very long hours and often there is only one of you so you cannot ‘duplicate’ yourself. This is not to deter people from looking at this option, because with the right approach it can be financially rewarding. Research does however suggest that the odds are against success, especially if you begin without substantial funding. About 80% of small businesses fail within their first year. A further 15% will fail within 5 years. Out of the 5% left very few will be around for another 5 years. Investments: Stocks and bonds, property, venture capital, and other investments are proven ways to earn residual income - but they require substantial up-front capital. For your money to earn money, you must have significant money to start with, which is great if you do, but unfortunately most people do not. Direct & Internet/Network Marketing: This method of delivering goods and services to the public is creating one of the fastest growing industries across the world, offering distributors a residual income in return for a low risk, low cost investment. In particular there are about 150,000 people entering the network marketing industry globally every week, all building a business to capitalise on this growing trend that is being endorsed by leading financial businessmen worldwide.
Robert Kiyosaki, famous author of many wealth creation books including the best-selling "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" series, has been a big advocate for the network marketing industry for many years. He explains that; “Anyone with drive, determination and perseverance can build wealth and residual income through a revolutionary business model that is designed for people who like helping people.”
For people who desire residual income who don’t have the capital to earn it through investments, or the talent to earn it through royalties, network marketing is a growing trend that offers a simple business model that is proven to help everyday people earn financial freedom through residual income.

SOME COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS & FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Although network marketing dates back to the 1940’s it is only now that the industry has come of age. It is estimated that there are more than 50 million people worldwide involved in network marketing with almost 100 billion dollars in annual wholesale revenue. Network Marketing is endorsed by many global business leaders (Robert Kiyosaki, Donald Trump, Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Richard Branson and many more) and respected publications (The Wall Street Journal, The Daily Telegraph Money Making Magazine - see pages 23-24), yet there are still common misconceptions due to misinformation. IS NETWORK MARKETNG A PYRAMID SCHEME? No! So, what's the difference between network marketing and a pyramid scheme? Network marketing or multi-level marketing is a legitimate and legal business model, unlike pyramid schemes which are illegal. To start with let’s look at the similarities and then work to distinguish the two. Generally, the initial concern for people when introduced to a network marketing opportunity is when they see the compensation plan which resembles a pyramid in shape. Instantly they fear the worst as they draw a resemblance to illegal pyramid schemes. The truth is that this pyramid structure is the same as every other sustainable business model across the world. This is best highlighted in the diagram below left. Why are we more comfortable with the same information arranged in a more modular or ‘branches’ structure? See below right.
Why are we so concerned about the perceived shape of a business? The diagram below shows exactly the same information but does it look like a pyramid?
Does Shape Now Matter? Is it the shape of the business model that dictates whether a business model is illegal? No, of course not. If this were true every profitable company, government, church and school would be illegal and shut down. It is not so much the shape of the pyramid that people should be concerned about, but more the way in which the pyramid is created that distinguishes whether or not it is legal.

Pyramid Scheme (illegal scam) A pyramid scheme can be defined as a fraudulent money-making scheme that is based on a non-sustainable business model that involves the exchange of money primarily for enrolling other people into the scheme without a legitimate product or service being delivered. Eventually the number of new recruits fails to sustain the payment structure and the scheme collapses with most people losing the money they paid in. In a more practical sense, probably the easiest way to identify pyramid schemes is firstly there is no legitimate product or service involved (i.e. you do not get a legitimate product in return for your initial investment). The second way to identify pyramid schemes is that you do not get a financial return unless you have successfully introduced a number of new recruits into the pyramid. Basically, pyramid schemes concentrate on the money that you could earn by recruiting new people into the pyramid and generally ignore the marketing and selling of any products or services. Network Marketing (legitimate, legal business model) The concept behind network marketing is a distribution model that allows a company to sell their products directly to the consumer by choosing to use a word of mouth approach (networking) instead of advertising through traditional streams (e.g. media). Therefore instead of paying the media for advertising, network marketing companies are structured to reward distributors through commissions in return for selling their products and finding new customers. Therefore the main focus of a network marketing company is product distribution. In fact, in a legitimate network marketing company, distributors are not required to recruit new distributors in order to earn a commission, they can earn money purely by selling the company’s product. Although distributors can choose to sell the company’s products to earn their commissions, not everybody wants to be a sales person and therefore they choose to recruit more distributors into their organisation as a means to build their referral base. Not only does this create a group of loyal customers, it also allows you to leverage the efforts of others to create a residual stream of income. Therefore the recruiting element of a network marketing business is merely a way of distributing more products and helping to build a leveraged income. Why do distributors in network marketing normally receive a commission when a new recruit joins their organisation? To join a network marketing company you have to purchase an initial start-up kit. This kit usually includes training, some sales and management tools to assist you to build your business, and a certain amount of product. Because there is a certain amount of product (for personal use and for use as testers) included in the start-up kit, the sponsoring distributor is now entitled to a commission. Distributors/Consultants are paid a commission - not for recruiting new members, but for the amount of product that is sold through their organisation. Therefore recruiting new members into a network marketing company is purely a way of expanding the distributor’s network and customer base. Any commission made through recruiting new members is a result of the product sold in the start-up package and not for the recruiting itself.

Another big distinction between pyramid schemes and network marketing is the fairness of good mathematics. To prevent network marketing companies from falling over like pyramid schemes (where people at the top make all the money and people at the bottom lose everything), there are restrictions placed in the network marketing company’s compensation (pay) plan that limit either the number of people who can earn a commission off any given sale or the promotion of the consultant through the company’s management levels. This not only makes the business model sustainable but also makes it fair in the sense that it doesn’t matter if you got in first or last, you have the same opportunity as everyone else to earn a substantial legal income. You don’t have to take our word for it, network marketing is now being endorsed by a number of the world’s leading businessmen (see pages 23-24). IS NETWORK MARKETING A GET RICH QUICK SCHEME? No! Although it is possible to earn money quickly the majority of people who earn millions in network marketing are those who have done so through consistent part-time work. It won’t happen overnight, but network marketers who work consistently part-time (a few hours a week for at least a year) are generally earning enough residual income to quit their fulltime work after about 3-5 years. ONLY A FEW PEOPLE MAKE MONEY No! Network marketing mirrors human effort and just like any other investment, it takes time to grow. The reason why some people give up after just 6 months is generally because they are impatient and were expecting to get rich quick and not have to work for the money. This is possible and yes there are a few people in network marketing that do get rich quick, but just like any other investment portfolio, generally good things come to those who wait. The way in which residual income works in the network marketing industry is that in the beginning you are seriously underpaid for the work you do. For example, initially it may take you 10 hours of work to make a £50 profit (£5 per hour). This is not even minimum wage and this is the point where many people will give up. What you need to realise is that as your organisation grows the opposite is also true. You become seriously overpaid. Not only are you earning a profit on the work you do, but also from the work of members in your network, where now you could be earning £500/hour. When you go to university or college it normally takes at least 3 years to get a degree, which costs a significant amount of money. Why do people do it? Because they see it as an investment for their future, not a cost. Network marketing is the same. Just like any other investment - property, shares, education - the reward is in the years that follow, not in the first couple of months. I DON’T HAVE THE MONEY TO START If you get this business, and you see the bigger picture of what you could create, you will find a way. One of the main reasons people start this business is because they don’t have enough money and are looking for an extra income but they also appreciate that you have to ‘speculate to accumulate’. We have consultants in Arbonne who have started using an interest-free credit card and achieved Regional Vice President level in 3 months, we also have consultants who have sold clothes on Ebay to afford their starter kits. This business is an investment in your future and the initial investment is minor compared to your potential earnings. This is an effort-based business – you decide on your income – you put the effort in.

ARE THERE ANY ADDITIONAL COSTS? As an Arbonne consultant you are not contractually obliged to purchase products however to build this business you have to become a product of the product. You can be telling everyone about Arbonne, but then if you are using other brands, it will give people totally the wrong message. This is a business about creating a network of people switching their brand to Arbonne. You are therefore expected to spend approximately £75 a month on products for yourself and your household (although you can just sell this amount). This can include your personal and daily care products as well as nutrition and cosmetics etc…
Spending your £75 a month is your only business expense. Remember, you have no other overheads, no office rent, employees to pay, insurance etc. This is your monthly expense to build and maintain your growing business. It is important to look at the bigger picture and understand that the quicker you get to work the quicker your Arbonne income will be coming in, so it is a small price to pay immediately for the success you can create in the future.
I DON’T HAVE TIME, I’M TOO BUSY ALREADY. That is exactly why you should consider Network Marketing. Besides creating financial freedom, Network Marketing is specifically designed to create personal freedom for you so that you can do all the things in life you really want to do that you don't have the time for now. If it is worthwhile, you will find a way to make short-term sacrifices for long-term gain. If you don’t do something now to change your situation you will always “have no time”!
I CANNOT SELL SO THIS PROBABLY ISN’T FOR ME Network Marketing is not about ‘selling’. It is about you personally switching your brands and teaching others to do the same to create an income. You are not going to talk about how amazing a lipstick is. The products are phenomenal, but they sell themselves, which is why we give people products to test-drive. People don’t lie awake at night worrying about their wrinkles; they worry about their mortgage, rent or pension. You are just offering people an incredible opportunity to gain personal and financial freedom by doing something they already do. If they want to do it great, if not, that’s fine too. You are actually already doing network marketing without knowing it! Every time you tell a friend about a great film or a great restaurant you are doing word-of-mouth recommending. The difference is that you are not getting paid for that recommendation. With network marketing you do get paid! DO I HAVE TO INTRODUCE LOTS OF PEOPLE TO BE SUCCESSFUL? No. It’s about knowing a few people who know a few people who know a few people and don’t forget about the people that you haven’t even met yet. Many successful people in Arbonne have people in their business who they didn’t even know when they joined Arbonne. You are really just looking to find 4 people ‘with skin and hair’ and a need for more than they already have. If you can consistently sponsor just one person a month you can build an enormous Network Marketing organization. Part of your on-going training will also be to teach you how to talk to and meet people that you don’t already know and show you how to introduce the business to them.

WHAT IS SO IMPORTANT ABOUT SPONSORING No matter how intelligent, rich, energetic, or dynamic you may be - you are still limited by the same 24 hours in a day. Sponsoring overcomes this. It allows you to duplicate yourself and have dozens, hundreds, even thousands of people working indirectly on your behalf on their time. Imagine if a teacher knew they would receive one percent of the lifetime earnings of every student they taught? Sponsoring builds security in this business. In most traditional businesses or perhaps if you are self-employed, what happens if you become ill or unable to work or perhaps you simply want to take a nice long holiday? For whatever reason, you could lose most if not all of your income if your income relies on you being there. In network marketing, if you do not work today, those in your organization are working for themselves and you receive a portion of their efforts. This is definitely a win-win situation for everyone involved. By sponsoring and building a network in network marketing, you can create financial freedom. With a downline of independent business people working with you, your eggs are no longer in one basket. Each person in your downline has a vested interest in continuing and building their own businesses. THE UGLY TRUTH OF THE WORLD OF SKINCARE & COSMETICS Women and beauty products – it’s a love affair that has been going on for centuries. Every year we splash out £6.4 billion on beauty products, but do we ever stop and think what’s in them or what they could be doing to us? A study by a UK company, Bionsen, found that an average woman applies 515 chemicals to her face every day which have been added to scent, preserve, synthesize and stabilise the products. Unfortunately however, most consumers are unaware that many of these chemicals can have a detrimental effect on our body and skin. Just think, in the morning you shower, apply chemical shampoo, conditioners and shower gel. You get out of the shower and apply a body lotion and then a face cream and then on goes the make-up. Layer after layer of chemicals are applied and absorbed into our largest body organ, the skin, all day long, like a toxic chemical time bomb. Whilst manufacturers insist that our cosmetics are safe, there is a growing concern over the number of products we all use daily and the cumulative effect of so many chemicals used all over our bodies every day, for many years. TOXIN AWARENESS PARABENS
Parabens are widely used as preservatives in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries and are a chemical form of Para-Aminobenzoic Acid. Common types include: Butyl, Propyl and ethyl Parabens. Less common are Benzylparaben, Isobutylparaben and Methylparaben, which are also known to cause premature ageing of the skin. Scientific studies have shown they are comedogenic (clog pores and promotes acne) and are potentially carcinogenic. Natural parabens that occur in cinnamon and fruits (prunes and blueberries) can be used in trace amounts to stabilise and reduce the effects of bacteria and spoilage and are considered safe.
MINERAL OIL Mineral oil is a by-product in the distillation of petroleum to produce gasoline and other petroleum based products from crude oil. Mineral oil is a common ingredient in baby lotions, creams, and many cosmetics despite its occlusive effect on the skin which interferes with the absorption of key ingredients and has a resulting comedogenic effect. Petroleum byproducts coat the skin like plastic, interfering with the skin’s ability to eliminate toxins and slows down the skin function and cell development, resulting in premature ageing. Contrary to belief, this ingredient is not healthy. In Switzerland where Arbonne is formulated it is illegal to use mineral oil in cosmetic formulations.
PROPYLENE GLYCOL Again from petro-chemicals like mineral oil, it blocks the natural absorption and eliminating functions of the skin. This organic compound is used as a solvent in many pharmaceuticals, including oral, injectable and topical formulations. It is also used as a humectant food additive, labelled as E number E1520. Equally as a moisturiser in medicines, cosmetics, food, toothpaste, mouthwash, and tobacco products. It is a carrier in fragrance oils which optimally will cause a sensitizing effect on the skin.
PETROLATUM Petroleum jelly or soft paraffin remains widely used in cosmetic skin care despites its tendency to promote acne and other disorders due to clogging the pores and interfering with the skins pH balance.
PABA Para-Aminobenzoic Acid (PABA) is commonly used as an ingredient in sunscreens. It has been found to cause sensitivity and allergic reactions caused by free radicals, therefore due to on-going negative research, is not used in any Arbonne products.
DIETHANOLAMINE Often abbreviated as DEA this is a colourless organic lubricant used in the cosmetic industry, particularly with products to enhance or change the colour, e.g. nail polish, lipstick, shampoo and conditioner. There are still health concerns connected to DEA as it is regarded as a harmful chemical that both contaminates and irritates the skin, eyes and hair follicles.

For SENSITIVE Skin: Use a small amount (RE9 is concentrated). DAY 1 Cleanser & Toner -wait a few minutes to see if sensitivity occurs. If there is no sensitivity follow the next day with…DAY 2: Cleanser & Toner, Eye Cream and Day/Night cream. DAY 3: Cleanser & Toner, Serum, Eye Cream and Day/Night cream. The serum is the most active - this should be introduced once the skin has had a chance to adjust to the RE9 Advanced System For EXTREMELY SENSITIVE Skin Start with the cleanser and then add a new product to the routine each day: DAY 1: Cleanser, DAY 2: Toner, DAY 3: Eye Cream, DAY 4: Day/Night Cream, DAY 5: Serum (after the toner). When you begin using products that work deep within the skin there is an initial period of adjustment that skin goes through. This is completely normal and varies in duration, because everyone's skin is different. It can take about 4-6 weeks for the skin to adjust to new products, especially if your skin is not used to such pure, effective products. During this period of adjustment, you may experience: Dryness/Flakiness: The active ingredients in the RE9 System stimulate the production of new, better quality skin cells. As these new skin cells are bought to the surface you may experience some dryness or flakiness, if your previous skin care regime was not efficiently removing the dead skin cells for the skin's surface. Spots/Breakouts: Arbonne products are very concentrated and will draw out impurities up to the surface of the skin. Redness: Re9 Advanced stimulates a better blood supply to the skin, this will normalise after a few days.
