New York Times Bestselling Author Sam Kean Visits Eldersburg Branch Library Eldersburg, MD—Sam Kean, New York Times bestselling author of The Disappearing Spoon, will visit the Eldersburg Branch of the Carroll County Public Library on Wednesday, March 28 at 7:00 pm. The event, for ages 14 and above, is free with seating first come, first served. Kean will discuss the intrigues of the periodic table, as featured in his book, such as why Gandhi hated iodine, how Marie Curie was almost ruined by radium, and why Godzilla was bombarded with missiles made from cadmium. In Kean’s expert hands, the periodic table, one of mankind’s crowning scientific achievements, becomes a treasure trove of passion, adventure, betrayal, and obsession. Sam Kean spent years collecting mercury from broken thermometers as a kid, and now he's a writer in Washington, DC. His work has appeared in the New York Times Magazine, Mental Floss, Slate, and Science, and has been featured on NPR's "Radiolab" and "All Things Considered." The Disappearing Spoon is his first book. More information about Sam Kean can be found on his website: http://www.samkean.com.
