RESEARCH INTERESTS Using

verbal protocols, assessments, and behavioral methodologies, I study how social/emotional processes interact with cognitive factors to affect comprehension development. This work examines how mood affects reading strategies, the text components that children and adults monitor during reading, predictors of comprehension across development, reading goals, and how social factors such as dominance and resource control relate to comprehension. This work is used to inform and test interventions in laboratory and real-world settings.
