CCNA 3.0 Certification Exam Availability FAQs Q. How long will the retired Cisco® CCNA® certification exams be available? A. The INTRO (640-821), ICND (640-811), and CCNA (640-801) certification exams will be available to Cisco Networking Academy® students until July 31, 2009. The retirement date for the general public was November 6, 2007. After July 31, 2009 students will need to take the new CCNA exams ICND1 (640-822) and ICND2 (640-816), or CCNA Composite (640-802), to achieve CCNA certification.

Q. Why have the INTRO (640-821), ICND (640-811), and CCNA (640-801) certification exams been retired? A. The INTRO (640-821), ICND (640-811), and CCNA (640-801) certification exams were retired from the general public on November 6, 2007 and new versions of the exams were introduced at that time including ICND1 (640-822), ICND2 (640-816), and CCNA Composite (640-802) certification exams. The new exams reflect the course content found in the CCNA Discovery and CCNA Exploration curricula. The old exams corresponded to CCNA v3.x, which has also been retired.

Q. Why does the Networking Academy community have access to the retired versions of the certification exams?

A. The Networking Academy community has access to the retired version of the CCNA certification exams to enable students and alumni who completed the CCNA 3.x version of the curriculum to achieve certification while academies transition to the new CCNA Discovery and CCNA Exploration curricula.

Q. How can students access retired versions of the certification exams? A. Promotional codes are provided for each of the retired exams. Students can use these promotional codes when registering to gain access to retired exams. These codes can be used more than once and can be used until July 31, 2009. There are two ways to register for retired versions of certification exams using promotional codes: 1. 2.

Q. What is the process for requesting a retired certification exam promotional code? A. Students, instructors, and alumni can access retired exam promotional codes through the Certifications and Vouchers link in the Resources menu on Academy Connection. Codes are posted under the section titled Vouchers and Promotional Codes. Instructors may also access the promotional codes by contacting the Academy Support Desk. To contact the Support Desk, log into Academy Connection and select Help at the top of the screen. Select the appropriate language support link then click the Contact the Support Desk tab.

Q. Can I use my discount voucher in combination with a retired promotional code? A. Yes, you may use your unexpired discount voucher in combination with a promotional code if they are for the same exam. Please note that a discount voucher can only be used once while a promotional code can be used multiple times.

Q. How do I obtain a discount voucher? A. To become eligible for a discount voucher for the retired versions of the certification exams, a student must pass the CCNA 4 Voucher Exam with a score of “Voucher Eligible” and received a “P” in the grade book. If a student has met these requirements a link to request a voucher will appear on their Academy Connection student homepage.

Q. I believe I have met the eligibility requirements to receive a voucher and I do not see a link on my student homepage to request one. Who should I contact?

A. Please contact [email protected]. The support desk will be able to verify your eligibility status and assist you accordingly.

Q. If my discount voucher expires after July 31, 2009, may I register for the INTRO (640-821), ICND (640811), or CCNA (640-801) certification exams after July 31, 2009?

A. No, if you have a discount voucher that applies to the INTRO (640-821), ICND (640-811), or CCNA (640-801) exams you must redeem your voucher and schedule your exam on or before July 31, 2009. After July 31, 2009, vouchers for these certification exams will no longer be accepted regardless of their expiration date.

Q. If my discount voucher for INTRO (640-821), ICND (640-811), or CCNA (640-801) expires after July 31, 2009, may I apply it toward ICND1 (640-822), ICND2 (640-816), or CCNA Composite (640-802)?

A. No, vouchers for retired versions of the certification exams cannot be applied toward the new versions of certification exams.

Q. If my discount voucher for INTRO (640-821), ICND (640-811), or CCNA (640-801) expires after July 31, 2009, may I exchange it for an ICND1 (640-822), ICND2 (640-816), or CCNA Composite (640-802) voucher?

A. No, vouchers for retired versions of the certification exams cannot be exchanged for discount vouchers for the new certification exams.
