Children with Diabetes Website www.childrenwithdiabetes.com Created in July 1995 by the father of a child with diabetes, Children with Diabetes aims to help children with diabetes and their families learn about diabetes, meet people with diabetes, and help others with diabetes. The site has received several awards. It was rated among the top 5% of all web sites by Leeks. Finding what you are looking for The home page contains top-level links to each of the major areas of the website. Every page is key word indexed and a User's Guide will help you determine where to start. There are navigation tips, as well as suggested starting points for children, parents and adults. If you have trouble ®nding something, the Index can help. This alphabetical listing contains links to almost everything within the site. Understanding diabetes For patients or parents who are new to diabetes or want to learn more, Diabetes Basics is the place to start. Basic facts about diabetes are explained. What is Type 1 diabetes? What is insulin and why is it used? For patients who want to learn more about research into a cure, the information within Diabetes Basics can help. A child's doctor says he or she needs a Hemoglobin A1C test every three months, but the parents are not sure what that means and they forgot to ask the doctor. The Diabetes Dictionary contains de®nitions for this and hundreds of other terms. Diabetes Clinic Staffed by a group of international multidisciplinary experts, the Diabetes Team answers questions about diabetes. Readers submit dozens of questions each week, and each receives an answer from the Team. Most answers are published. Diabetes at School Diabetes at School is designed to help children with diabetes and their parents ensure that they are able to care for their diabetes while at school.
