CHRISTMAS IS COMING... Dear Parents, Although we are only in the month of November and you may think it strange that I am already sending you a letter about Christmas, I wanted to tell you about some exciting events that are planned for Advent and Christmas at our parish so that you can put them on your calendar. Friday, December 6: Family Faith Giving Tree Party in Rohan Hall, 7:00 P.M. Jesus told us to love and to share. We are responding to Jesus' words when we provide a Christmas gift for a needy child. Please purchase a gift that is both fun and functional (a pretty blanket, crazy socks, superhero underwear). Gifts of diapers (size 3 or 4) or hygiene products for older kids are always greatly appreciated. Wrap the gift and include a card or tag with the gender and approximate age (or size) of the recipient (Example: For a Good Girl, Age 6-8, with love from Santa). Please leave your gift at the Church Office or bring the wrapped gift to our party on December 6th. The gifts are brought to the GRIP Souper Center in Richmond where they are distributed at Christmas time. Thank you for your generosity to those children who otherwise might not receive any gift for Christmas. At the meeting we will have a presentation regarding the Giving Tree, make an ornament for the tree, prepare for our Christmas Eve Mime by practicing the Christmas songs, and enjoy some cookies and hot chocolate. Monday, December 9: Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception of our Blessed Mother Mary. We celebrate that original sin, the sin of our first parents, Adam and Eve, never touched Mary's soul. When the Angel Gabriel was sent from God to ask Mary if She would become the Mother of God, she replied that she would do whatever God wanted her to do. By her “Yes,” God gave us Jesus to show us the way to heaven. What better gift could we have? The Church designates this as a Holy Day of Obligation. See the bulletin for scheduled Masses. Sunday, December 15: Rehearsal for the Christmas Mime. We will meet in Church at 2:00 P.M. to practice our parts. Rehearsal should last about 1 hour. All children of the parish and school are invited to participate. We are looking for children to play the parts of shepherds and angels. Also, 7th and 8th graders are needed to assist the younger children. Tuesday, December 24: Christmas Mime presented by the children during the 5:00 P.M. Mass. Children should be seated in the church by 4:30 P.M., dressed in their costumes. Advent and Christmas can be a busy season, especially for families with young children. Besides the events listed above, families sometimes celebrate other important days such as St. Nicholas Day, the Feast of The Virgin of Guadalupe, and Santa Lucia Day. The Church gives us this opportunity each year to teach our children about the meaning of Christmas – God's gift of Life to each of us through the coming of His Son, Jesus Christ. I hope that your family will be able to join us for as many of these events as possible. May God bless You for teaching your children about Him. Sincerely, Mary Ernst St. Jerome Director of Religious Ed. 525-0876, ext 12
