THE FoRMATION PRODUCT LINE BY THALES

> TOTAL CAPABILITIES A real discriminator in the simulator market, providing a unique degree of operability and life cycle cost benefits, Thales FoRMATION consists of a comprehensive suite of products operating on a PC/Windows© real-time computing platform - designated C2000X. This pioneering computer architecture design is based on the following principles: - Use of commercially available components, where form, fit and functional alternatives and multiple sources are available, in order to reduce life cycle costs and minimize the exposure to obsolescence. - Use of the Thales designed computing element to meet real time computing requirements for high value aircraft systems software applications, thereby ensuring availability of this critical component. Thales has been at the forefront of rehosting and retargeting avionic vendor aircraft software to run on PC platforms utilized in lower level training devices. This comprehensive product line covers all civil aviation simulator training requirements and provides a scaleable, modular, portable and cost effective architecture to support full fidelity model deployment across the range of devices. The use of a common architecture enables use of high fidelity FFS software on desktop devices and web-enabled training platforms to provide the student with a consistent high fidelity aircraft model. Whether for an individual customer facility, a training school, or wherever there is a need for several simulators and trainers to be located together, the client/server architecture provides a networking capability to allow the most efficient combination of students and instructor staff.

Industry standard software is used to reduce overall support costs and increase equipment availability by negating the need for a highly specialized technical support workforce. The use of PC technology has enabled Thales to harness and utilize commercially available PC maintenance tools and software packages. The easy to use Windows© based tools provide page and lesson plan editors to configure the instructor station to meet each customer requirement. The majority of the Thales developed tools are browser based thereby providing the capability of running the tools on any networked PC. This is particularly of benefit in the use of the Lesson Management tools, Page Editor and Lesson Plan Editor, enabling Instructors and courseware developers to prepare training programs off-line remotely from the simulators.

FoRMATION advances lower operating costs The latest innovation from Thales is the unique and economical electro-hydraulic motion system, EM2K. This provides greater fidelity and with the removal of the need for a hydraulic power unit and associated piping and cooling achieves more than 50% lower operating costs than existing motion systems. Improved handing fidelity is achieved by increased computer iteration rates and a further innovation is the use of environmentally friendly vegetable based oils for the hydraulics.

Thales is also introducing an electrical control loading system that removes hydraulics from the on-board area of the simulator simplifying maintenance tasks and thus reducing operating and ownership costs.

Thales product range covers all training needs: • • • • • • • • •
