Course description: Lecture. 3 hrs. General idea of basic microbiology. Satisfies 3 of the 75 credits of required microbiology core courses for the undergrad curriculum. No prerequisities.
Course Overview: General Microbiology (MCB 101) is an introductory course designed to familiarize the students with the basic understandings of microbiology, microorganisms, microscopes, their scopes in human life and social welfare. It’s a non laboratory course for
majors. Active and constructive participation of students during class regarding the lectures will be highly appreciated. Course Principles
Reading Reading will be assigned from the three books recommended. Students will be quizzed the beginning of each class on the assigned reading for that day. It is imperative that students come to class prepared to discuss the topics covered I the reading assignments.
Attendance Attendance in class is mandatory and will be taken each day. Any student who does not maintain a 75% attendance for class will automatically receive “F” for the course. Students will automatically fail if they miss more than 4 lectures.
Assignments/Quizzes/Class tests
Each class will begin with quiz on that day’s reading assignment. There will also be one midterm and one final examination administered. The exams will assess the student’s comprehension of the concepts covered in reading assignments and classroom discussion/lectures. When needed, students will be given writing assignments and/or presentations to prepare.

Grading Policy Makeup exams will be given only at the discretion of instructor.
Professionalism Students are expected to carry themselves with professional decorum and to show respect to the teacher and fellow students while in class. Please do not disrupt class by arriving late or leaving early. Students arriving 10 minutes after class starts will be marked absent for that class.
Plagiarism Any student found copying another person’s work, cheating on an exam or quiz will either be given zero on the work or an “F” in the course.
