COURSE SYLLABUS CODE: SUBJECT: SPANISH INTENSIVE COURSE COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course is aimed at freshmen students learning Spanish as a Second Language who wish to have a first approach to the language as a means to access their higher studies at UEM. ECTS CREDITS: 3 RELEVANCE WITHIN CURRICULUM: Mastering Spanish as a foreign language is essential for foreign students as the vehicle in which most of the subjects are taught at UEM and as an introduction to Spanish culture to which they belong during their stay at university. Thus, Spanish is considered not just as the key to access to specific contents in higher education but also to integrate them into the Spanish system. GENERAL SKILLS: -

Responsibility Communicative skills Intercultural awareness

SPECIFIC SKILLS:  Identify and use the most basic grammar structures in Spanish to communicate in Writing, Speaking and for Reading comprehension in level A1.  Be able to use communicative Writing strategies in level A1.  Be able to use communicative Speaking skills in level A1.  Be able to use communicative Reading Comprehension skills in level A1. SUBJECT CONTENT: -

Give and ask for personal details (name, age, etc.); Greetings and farewells; Express intentions and interests; Describe places and countries. Talk about location and the weather; Buy in stores: ask for products and prices; Talk about preferences; Talk about physical appearance and personality; Talk about habits and frequency; Get by in bars and restaurants; Give and ask information about food; Describe neighborhoods and cities; Give and ask information about directions; Talk about abilities; Give and ask personal information: likes and interests; Talk about habits; Talk about the past.

LEARNING ACTIVITIES: Activities will be communicative and focused on real-life situations. However, although they will be mainly aimed at Speaking, Writing, Listening and Reading comprehension will also be dealt with. ASSESSMENT: Assessment will be based on: -

Attendance and active participation in class; Specific tasks based on the European Portfolio for level A1; Final test.
