Rodion Petrov EN RodionPetrov, a memberofthe young generation of Lithuanian artists, represents the hyperrealistic (also called superrealistic, photorealistic) trendin painting that is not being actively exploited in our country. As it is usual for representatives of this trend, a photograph serves as the primary work model for R. Petrov. Basing on a recordedfact, the hyperrealists create a convincing illusory reality, simulating, according to Jean Baudrillard, something that has never actually existed. The newest painting cyclus ‘Anima’ by R. Petrov (2012-2013), where the spaces of subconscious world are disclosed, is the continuation of earlier artist’s cycli ‘Capricho’ and ‘Interference’. It is the visual result of the artist’s considerations about Anima (lat. ‘soul’), as an ideal prototype of a woman and as an unrealized female side of a man’s personality (according to Carl G. Jung). Anima could be perceived in two ways – as a prototype of a perfect woman, and as a woman in a man. Such perception evokes considerations about the existing connection between a man’s soul, his “inner woman” and a real woman, who matches the man’s ideal, and it raises a question – does a real woman, corresponding a man’s ideal for his soul embodiment, exist? From the very first days of life, a woman’s ideal is formed in a man’s imagination. Calmness and security sensations of a breastfed baby are changed by the feelings of fear and wrong, as a mother gets farther from the child. Basing on the image of mother, coming and going away, the first subconscious ‘portrait’ of an ideal woman is formed, the pursuit of which continues through the further man’s intimate experience. Through the prism of Anima, the man perceives his subconsciousness and experiences female features: sensitivity, turn for fantasies, doubts, exaggerated emotionality, shifts of mood. Animainduces the man search for a harmony – a woman, who could hold his soul. Works of the ‘Anima’ cyclus invite a viewer to plunge into a pursuit of C. G. Jung’s consciousness and subconsciousness juxtaposition, analysis of the male ‘I’ and female ideal. The cyclus splits symbolically into two stages of visual expression. The first one drowns s woman’s image into a mystified space, echoing with monochromic photograph principles, where the reality is simply eliminated through the veil of fog. Women’s pale bodies and classic Greek sculptures breathe with perfect beauty and harmony, though they are devoid of vital energy. Colored intarsias, spreading in the depths, and figurative motives implicate that we are out of this space and this time. That is the world of collective subconsciousness that everyone has to discover himself. The second stage seems to distance from the collective subconsciousness and gives a look into personal experience. Trying to comprehend the essence of Anima, the young artist searched for inspiration for new cyclus
works in a materialized and morally devaluated place – a night club. These works ‘emerge’ from the mystery of shadows and mist into the surface, saturated with color vitality from the bright club lights; however, the latter also hides woman’s image under the shield of graphic rays, putting a mask on the sought-for ideal, thus concealing the despair from longing and pursuits of the unsettled subconsciousness.
LT Rodion Petrov, atstovaujantis jaunajai Lietuvos menininkų kartai, reprezentuoja mūsų šalyje ne itin aktyviai eksploatuojamą hiperrealistinę (dar vadinama superrealistinę, fotorealistinę) tapybos kryptį. Kaip ir įprasta šios krypties atstovams, R. Petrovui pirminiu darbo modeliu tarnauja fotografija. Remdamiesi užfiksuotu kadru, hiperrealistai kuria įtikinamą iliuzinę tikrovę, simuliuodami, anot Jeano Baudrillardo, tai, kas niekad neegzistavo realybėje. Naujausias R. Petrov tapybos ciklas „Anima“ (2012-2013 m.), kuriame atveriamos pasąmoninio pasaulio erdvės, yra ankstesnių menininko ciklų “Capricho” ir “Interference” tęsinys. Tai – menininko samprotavimų apie Animą (lot. „siela“), kaip idealų moters prototipą ir neįsisąmonintą moteriškąją vyro asmenybės pusę (pagal Karlą G. Jungą), vizualus rezultatas. Anima galima suprasti dvejopai – kaip idealios moters prototipą ir kaip moterį vyre. Toks suvokimas žadina samprotavimus apie egzistuojantį ryšį tarp vyriškos sielos, jo „vidinės moters“ ir realios moters, atitinkančios vyro idealą bei kelia klausimą – ar yra reali moteris, atitinkanti vyro idealą jo sielos įkūnijimui? Nuo pirmų gyvenimo dienų vyro vaizduotėje formuojasi moters idealas. Žindomo kūdikio ramybės ir saugumo pojūtį keičia baimės ir nuoskaudos jausmai, mamai tolstant nuo vaiko. Pagal ateinančios ir nueinančios motinos vaizdą, formuojasi pirminis pasąmoninis idealios moters „portretas“, kurios paieškos tęsiasi per tolimesnę intymiąją vyro patirtį. Per Animos prizmę vyras suvokia savo pasąmonę ir išgyvena moteriškus bruožus: jautrumą, polinkį fantazijoms, abejonėms, perdėtam emocingumui, nuotaikų kaitai. Anima verčia vyrą ieškoti harmonijos – moters, kuri gali suvaldyti jo sielą. Ciklo „Anima“ darbai žiūrovą kviečia pasinerti į K. G. Jungo sąmonės ir pasąmonės sąlyčio paieškas, vyriškojo „aš“ ir moters idealo analizę. Ciklas simboliškai skyla į du vizualinės raiškos etapus. Pirmasis moters atvaizdą panardina į mistifikuotą, monochrominės fotografijos principais ataidinčią erdvę, kur po rūko skraiste tiesiog eliminuojama tikrovė. Balkšvi moterų kūnai it klasikinės graikų skulptūros dvelkia tobulu grožiu ir harmonija, bet nespindi gyvybinės energijos. Gilumoje prasiskverbiančios spalvinės intarsijos ir figūratyviniai motyvai suponuoja, kad esame ne šioje erdvėje ir ne šiame laike. Tai – kolektyvinės pasąmonės pasaulis, kurį kiekvienas turi atrasti savarankiškai. Antrajame etape tarsi nutolstama nuo kolektyvinės pasąmonės ir pažvelgiama į asmeninę patirtį. Bandydamas suvokti Animos esmę, jaunasis menininkas įkvėpimo naujausiems ciklo darbams ieškojo materializuotoje ir moraliai devalvuotoje vietoje – naktiniame klube. Šie darbai „išnyra“ iš šešėlių ir ūkanų paslapties į nuo ryškaus klubo apšvietimo spalvine gaivastimi prisodrintą paviršių, tačiau pastarasis moters atvaizdą taip pat
slepia po grafinių spindulių šydu, uždėdamas ieškomam idealui savotišką kaukę ir taip maskuodamas nerimstančios pasąmonės ilgesio ir paieškų neviltį.
