A Note From The Principal Dear Families: December brings the end of our second quarter and the halfway mark of the school year. We have seen such wonderful strides in our students so far, and I am confident that the second half of the school year will bring continued growth and gains. Thank you for your continued support in your child’s education. December also brings the opportunities for family involvement in different activities at our school.   PARENT  INVOLVEMENT  OPPORTUNITIES   PRE-­‐K  FAMILY  HOLIDAY  PARTY  

You   are   invited   to   join   your   child   in   our   Media   Center  at  10:00  a.m.  on  Friday,  December  13th   for  a   Holiday  Celebration!  Parents,  come  join  in  the  fun!   Second  Grade  Parent  Party   On  December  18th,  from  12:40  p.m.-­‐1:20p.m.   second  grade  is  inviting  families  into  their   classrooms    for  a  “Winter  Wonders!”  celebration.   Families  will  enjoy  making  snow,  followed  by   students  doing  a  writing  activity  about  snow  as   they  enjoy  snow  cones  with  their  families.     FIRST  GRADE  PARENT  PARTY   First  Grade  invites  you  to  join  your  student  on   December  19th  for    a    “Cookie  Creation”  workshop   which  will  be  held  in  your  student’s  classroom,   from  10:45a.m.-­‐11:45  a.m.    Activities  will  center   around  enhancing  your  student’s  reading   experience.   KINDERGARTEN  PARENT  PARTY   Come  join  your  students  for  “Gingerbread  Family   Day!”  Families  are  invited  to  our  cafeteria  on   December  19th  at  1:15,  to  enjoy  holiday  fun  as   students  sing  holiday  songs  and  then  families   create  gingerbread  houses  together.   THIRD  GRADE  PARENT  PARTY   Come  join  us  on  December  20th  at  9:00a.m.,   Families  are  invited  to  our  cafeteria  for  “Operation   Gingerbread!”  Students  will  be  creating   gingerbread  houses  using  directions  previously     written  by  our  third  grade  students.   FIFTH  GRADE  FAMILIES   On  December  20th,  from  9:00  a.m.-­‐10:00  a.m.,   families  are  invited  to  come  join  their  student  in   their  classroom  and  participate  in,  “The  Jelly  Bean   Rock  Cycle!  “  Students  will  be  using  jelly  beans  to   model  sedimentary,  metamorphic  and  igneous   rocks.   A  Note  From  The  Nurse   Preventing  the  Flu:  Good  Health  Habits  Can  Help  Stop  Germs:   The  single  best  way  to  prevent  seasonal  flu   is   to   get   vaccinated   each   year,   but   good   health   habits   like   covering  your  cough  and  washing  your  hands  often  can  help  stop   the   spread   of   germs   and   prevent   respiratory   illnesses   like   the   flu.      Here  are  some  tips  to  help  prevent  the  flu  this  season:   1.  Avoid  close  contact  with  people  who  are  sick.  When  you  are   sick,   keep   your   distance   from   others   to   protect   them   from   getting  sick  too.   2.  Stay  home  when  you  are  sick.    Stay  home  from  work,  school,   and   errands   when   you   are   sick.   You   will   help   prevent   others   from  catching  your  illness.   3.  Cover  your  mouth  and  nose.   Covering  your  mouth  and  nose   with   a   tissue   when   coughing   or   sneezing   may   prevent   those   around  you  from  getting  sick.   4.   Clean   your   hands.     Washing   your   hands   often   will   help   protect  you  from  germs.  If  soap  and  water  are  not  available,  use   an  alcohol-­‐based  hand  rub.   5.   Avoid   touching   your   eyes,   nose,   and   mouth.     Germs   are   often   spread   when   a   person   touches   something   that   is   contaminated  with  germs  and  then  touches  his  or  her  eyes,  nose,   or  mouth.   6.   Practice   other   good   health habits. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.

By  saving  your  Campbell’s  soup  labels,  Tyson  Chicken   labels,  and  General  Mills  box  tops,  you  can  help  our   school  get  “free”  stuff.  Thank  you  for  supporting  HES.

PTA  NEWS   Come  join  PTA  for  Skate  Night!    Skate  Night  will  be  held  at       Spinnations,  which  is  located  at  8345  Congress  St.,  Port  Richey,   and  the  phone  number  is  (727)  847-­‐4336  on  Tuesday,   December  10th  from  6:00p.m  –  8:00  p.m.    Show  your  support   and  help  our  school  earn  money  on  Friday,  December  13th  ,  as   PTA  hosts  Chic-­‐Fil-­‐A  night  from  5:00  p.m.-­‐  8:00  p.m.    at  Gulf   View  Square  Mall.  Also,  don’t  forget  to  join  us  on  December  6th   and  December  20th  for  Cougar  Corner  at  parent  pick  up  during   dismissal  to  purchase  your  t-­‐shirts-­‐$6.00,  keychains,  $3.00  and   spirit  sticks  or  smelly  pencils  for  $1.00  each.  Great  stocking   stuffers!    The  PTA  is  sponsoring  many  holiday  events.  The  Holiday  House   will  be  open  December  16th  –  19th.  The  Holiday  House  allows   students  to  do  holiday  shopping  at  an  affordable  price,  during   school  hours.  On  December  19th    Holiday  House  will  be  open   6:00  p.m.-­‐  8:00  p.m.  during  Sweets  with  Santa.  Hot  Chocolate   will  be  sold  for  $1.00  each  and  cookies  at  two  for  a  $1.00.   Pictures  with  Santa  will  be  sold  for  $1.00.  Please  come  join  us   for  an  evening  of  fun  and  entertainment!

HOLIDAY  VOLUNTEER  PARTY   Hudson  Elementary  School  would  like  to  thank  our   dedicated  volunteers  for  all  of  their  hard  work.  To   express  our  appreciation,  all  Retired  Senior  Volunteers   and  “Top  20”  Volunteers  have  been  invited  to  a  Holiday   Luncheon  on  December  12th,  at  11:00  a.m.,  in  the  Media   Center.    If  you  have  not  already  done  so,  please  RSVP  to   Lisa  Ganes,  at  (727)  774-­‐4016.  We  look  forward  to  seeing   you  there!
