PRESIDENT’S REPORT Bruce Liebe It’s hard to believe that we have seen another year fly by. We’ve experienced some great fall riding, and in all, it’s been a good riding season. As I write this, it seems that winter weather has caught up to us. Being that we’re living in the Midwest, I guess the changing seasons are a fact of life we can’t escape. Last month, we had a great success with the Kumler Dinner. I don’t want to infringe on another officer’s article, but let me just say that the chapter had another great success. The dinner did not cost the chapter a cent; in fact we ended up in the black. I want to thank all of our chapter members for their efforts in support of the dinner, whether they made donations, collected donations, and/or worked the dinner. If you were not aware, the officers have been holding our monthly meetings at various chapter sponsors. At the December meeting, Howard Nation put forth a suggestion that we continue to rotate our meetings and expand it from newsletter sponsors to also include Kumler and Downed Rider Benefit sponsors. The officers believed this was an excellent suggestion and Howard is going to prepare a list of sponsors that will provide a “roadmap” for where the officers will hold meetings in 2014. This list will be published in the newsletter and the officers invite all chapter members to join us at these meetings. Remember, officer’s meetings are open to all and we’d love to see you there. Be involved with your chapter and support our sponsors. We exist because of you and those who support our efforts to advance the causes of motorcyclists. The December meeting is a must attend. Aside from having the chance to get together with fellow chapter members for a little holiday cheer, it is our month for elections. Unfortunately, several officer positions are uncontested; however, we have more sergeant at arms candidates than we have positions. Show up, vote, and enjoy the season with your fellow chapter members. That said, word has it that Santa himself is scheduled to make an appearance! Since this guy knows more about you than the NSA, you’d better show up and prove that you deserve something better than the lump of coal you got last year! Again, thank you to each and every one of you that makes the chapter what it is – great. Come join us at the December meeting. Remember, for those of you that might have drifted a little more to the naughty side of nice, the big guy in red will be there. This could be your last chance to make amends! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Bruce

LEGISLATIVECOORDINATOR George Tinkham Even though it may be Christmas season, the General Assembly has not given us any gifts. Sure, they found time for a special session to pass a constitutionally questionable pension / retirement benefits dimishment bill. They did not pass, however, a constitutionally sound resolution asking our Washington delegation (i.e., all Congressmen and US Senators from Illinois) to pass a bill requiring E-15 and higher alcohol content fuel formulations to be studied in depth before granting USEPA approval. On the plus side, however, Congressman Rodney Davis informed us at a fundraiser (see photo) that there is no significant push in Washington, D.C. for fuel formulas with more than 10% alcohol content. His take is that the feds are too busy defending 10% alcohol (E-10) to worry about promoting fuel formulas with greater alcohol content. A.B.A.T.E. is not against fuel formulas that result in environmental and economic benefits to our country. We do, however, insist that government not approve – much less promote – formulas that damage our equipment and void warranties. That is why we ask the feds to study the impact E-15 and above before approving those formulas. Soon, we shall see candidates (such as Congressman Davis) asking for our help in their primary races. That is the reason 4 Lincoln Land members went to a Davis fundraiser in Pana on December 7th. Mid State Chapter founder Rich Amling helped put on this fundraiser and appreciated our help – and the tickets purchased by A.B.A.T.E.’s FedPac. The photo taken at that event shows Congressman Davis, Barbara & Rich Amling, along with Lincoln Land members David Barnett, John Anderson, and George Tinkham. Maryan Barnett took the photo. There will be more fundraisers and opportunities to put out signs, walk neighborhoods, participate in phone banks, etc. coming up. Our friends will need your help. Please be there for them when they ask. Right now, I wish you a Merry Christmas. With your help, I trust we will have a Happy New Year! George Tinkham Springfield, Illinois

VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT Phil “Pacman” Cornell Merry Christmas To All In ABATE! WOW! This year has just zipped by and if you blinked you might have missed it. I hope that this finds all of you in good health and good cheer. I also hope that y'all were good little boys and girls so Santa doesn't leave a lump of coal in your stocking. Speaking of Santa, he's going to be at our chapter meeting on the 19th. So bring the kids and grand-kids and all those who still have a little kid in their heart and come listen to the "HO-HO-HO". I heard he'll be giving out candy canes to those who have been good all year. And PLEASE don't forget that we'll be having elections so come and cast your vote for who you think will do the best job for our chapter. Ahh Christmas......what a fantastic and magical time of the year. Now I'm not gonna get all emotional and I'm sure not gonna get all religious on you. Not that I don't have an opinion on the holidays but y'all don't wanna see me get on my soapbox and yell and holler about how so very few people remember the REAL reason for the season. And I'm pretty sure you don't want me to chastise those who have turned it into a commercial, money-grabbin', gouge the general public and make as much profit as you can holiday. I'm gonna try and stay away from that. Soooo, I'll be sure not to tell you how disgusted it makes me when I hear about how we have to remove Crosses and any other signs of Christianity from public buildings. And Heaven forbid if we put up a nativity scene on public property. But one thing I will definitely not talk about is how we can't even refer to it as the "Christmas Season" but have to call it the "Holiday Season" because we have to be "politically correct". Man, those egg shells are starting to slice up my feet! At this rate even Santa might be banned in a couple of years. What's next? A "holiday tree". IF Santa's still around, where will he put all the gifts?!?? Man, there's gonna be a lotta pissed of kids if all that happens. Nope, I decided in this months article that I would focus on the positive and not all the negative bullshit. So speaking positively, Mary and I would like to wish all of you a very, very, MERRY CHRISTMAS and a safe and happy New Year!!!! Now, how's that for being positive? Ooh, and don't forget Hud's Brass Monkey Run on New Years day. By golly, that's another positive. And y'all thought I was gonna be negative. And remember folks, keep the shiny side up, the rubber side down and your powder dry. I'll see ya in the wind, Pacman

Last meeting 24 of the people we left messages to had renewed because of our calls so we didn’t have to call them again. We got more requests for applications from people we got a hold of this last time. Membership is the most important part of ABATE. ACTIVITIES / PUBLIC RELATIONS COORDINATOR

(Co-Coordinator David Barnett) Hi everyone, The first thing I want to say is THANK YOU!!! Thank you to everyone for helping me pull off one of the best Thanksgiving dinners at Kumler that I can remember since I started this gig! That dinner does not happen without the help of each and every one of you that shows up for it. AGAIN, THANK YOU!!! Secondly, it’s with a sad heart that I sit here typing my last letter to all of you as your Activities Coordinator. I really don’t have the words to say how much I have enjoyed this position and how much it has helped me grow in alot of ways. I have started on a somewhat new path in my life, which has been very recently starting my own business out of my home. So far, things are going well, but you can imagine, I’m sure, how much of my time it is taking! I have absolutely every confidence though that Dave and Mary Ann Barnett will do a great job as your next Activities Coordinators. I know we haven’t had elections yet as of this typing, but no one else stepped up, so I’m confident in congratulating Dave & MaryAnn!!! I will be taking the position of Public Relations (unless someone else wants it) so you will still be seeing me around. Lastly, I hope that everyone has a very Merry Christmas and a safe and wonderful New Year!! See you all soon, I hope!! Alice

Newsletter Coordinator/Treasurer Bobbi Ozanic Who found the “needle in the haystack” last month which gave you the answer to who on earth is that handsome young future ABATE founder in the vintage photo? George Tinkham of course ! I tried to make it hard this month. Good luck !! Question everyone wants to ask George Tinkham on his legislative report: It’s great that you went to the fundraiser to support our representatives at the State House BUT you didn’t give any information on the awesome car up in the air ~ what’s it doing up there ?! It’s a Corvette {isn’t it ?} It’s super cool ! See you all at the December chapter meeting. Peace and glad tidings, Bobbi
