Camp Quality Kentuckiana hosted the Hope & Inspiration Celebration Breakfast at Big Springs Country Club on Oct. 18th. Special thanks to the dedicated volunteers of the Steering Committee for all their time and work in organizing this amazing and successful event on behalf of the CQ kids. Many caring individuals joined together to make a difference – Dawn Gee was emcee and Scotty Davenport was guest speaker. Lindsay & Heather (campers) and Gena Johnson, (camper Aiden’s Mom) shared their personal stories about Camp Quality. Campers Claire and Tessa served as greeters.

Holiday Greetings to everyone!    I’m  so  excited  about becoming your new executive director and wanted to thank the CQK personnel committee for entrusting me with the job of making sure your program stays the best in the USA! As I said at our annual Reunion event, all campers and parents should be extremely thankful for the amazing group of volunteers who contribute to the CQK camp and our year round program of events. It’s  obvious  that  my  job  will  be  made  a  lot  easier  because of their efforts and dedication. Camp Quality Kentuckiana has also hired a new development  director  and  I’m  pleased  to  announce that former companion Eddie Bobbitt has taken the position. Eddie will help CQK focus on a variety of our fundraising projects and be a major asset in our organization reaching its annual financial goals. Welcome aboard Eddie and I personally look forward to working with you.

Harvest Homecoming th

On Oct. 10 , CQ campers, companions, and staff braved stormy weather to participate in the New Albany Harvest Homecoming parade. A hardy group, their spirits were not dampened and a good time was had by all. CQ campers, parents, companions, and volunteer staff manned a booth for 4 days during the Harvest Homecoming Festival, while spreading the mission of Camp Quality Kentuckiana and Pediatric Cancer Awareness. Thank you Eddie and Country Lake staff for organizing this event, and for all who came out in support, and to enjoy the festivities.

One final note is that now that the holiday season is upon us and the New Year quickly approaching, I hope each of you begins to feel the excitement towards our 2014 camp. As announced at the Reunion,  our  theme  for  this  years’  camp will be HEROES and the dates are June 22-27th. So mark your calendars and begin making your plans for attending what promises to be the Best Camp Quality Kentuckiana ever! Please help me make my 1st Camp Quality experience loads of fun and a week to remember for all!!! Cheers, Charlie “O” (Obranowicz)

The 13th annual Cowboys for Kids Benefit for CQ Kentuckiana was held on Sept. 28 at the Breckinridge County Fairgrounds in Hardinsburg, KY. The weather was a beautiful sunny, fall day with a record turnout. For CQ attendees, the day began with a delicious picnic meal provided and served by the Hardinsburg Hardee’s staff. The horse competitions, barrel racing, flag racing, and pole bending were spirited and fun for participants and spectators. The day was filled with activities for the kids: train, horse, and wagon rides, games galore, and face painting. The food served up by Mrs. Haynes and her team was down-home good. The desserts were sinfully delicious. The silent and live auctions offered something for everyone. What an absolutely awesome day with our Cowboy Friends!

U of K NCAA 2012 Championship Floor Raffle For the past 3 years, since the inaugural LSC 5K, 10K, and half marathon, Camp Quality Kentuckiana  has  sponsored  an  “On  The  Road  For Children Dealing With Cancer” Team. This  st year the camper team took 1 place in fundraising, and will celebrate together with a Wick’s  Pizza  Party  gift  card.  The  1st  place  individual winner is camper Lindsay, who received  a  Salsarita’s  gift  card.  Thank  you  to  all who participated to make this fun event a success for Summer Camp 2014 for the CQ kids.

Northwestern Mutual generously presented a U of K NCAA Championship 13" x 18" souvenir floor section to Camp Quality Kentuckiana to raffle off as a fundraiser for summer camp 2014. Our friends at Northwestern Mutual proudly support Pediatric Cancer as their corporate charity. The lucky winner's chance, Charles Taylor of Louisville, was drawn by camper Aiden accompanied by campers Tessa and Lindsay, on WHAS Great Day Live November 25th. Thank you to all who supported this cause, and a very special thank you to Northwestern Mutual. Happy Camping in 2014 to the kids of Camp Quality!

What Camp Quality means to me. I am a camper dad. I love seeing all of these special kids come together in June, seeing how they have grown, watching their excitement to see each other and excitement about their week away. A couple of years ago, I joined the COC as a parent advocate. I knew little of how camp came together, how it sustained itself, and how it was really a year-long organization. Over the years I have become involved with both attending fundraisers and assisting with some of the fundraising. I love representing the kids and promoting Camp Quality whenever possible. I have grown to love my deeper involvement and I look forward to committing more time to these great kids so they and future kids can continue to experience this great organization. Doug Nielsen Camp Quality means so much to me! It is my second family! I look forward to camp every year, the reunion and every other camp event!  Even  if  I  haven’t  seen  my  friends  for  a  year  we  get  back  together like it has only been a couple of days being away from each other! But I do text them and keep up with them all year long and especially up until camp. Camper Tessa, (Age 13) When I was first approached about sending my 5 year old to a camp for a whole week after just coming off 47 weeks of chemo, I wouldn't even consider it. As time went by however and I heard more about it and grew closer to the people involved with Camp Quality, I finally relented and agreed to send my little girl, whom I'd never spent more than a day or two away from since birth, to Camp Quality. Was it an easy decision? Not by a long shot, but she wanted to go and I trusted the nurses and companions that would be watching over her. When she left I bawled. I cried off and on all week, the longest week of my life. I took some comfort in the fact we hadn't received any phone call saying she was homesick or worse, hurt. Finally Friday came and when my baby climbed off that bus looking disheveled, dirty and tired and smiling the biggest smile I'd ever seen, running towards us with her arms spread wide, I knew in my heart we'd made the right decision in letting her go. It's our tradition now to go out to dinner right after we pick her up so we can sit and listen to her regale stories of her amazing week with her amazing Camp Quality family. Michelle Nielsen

Dear Camp Quality COC: As we near Thanksgiving, my school encourages us to write letters of thanks to those who positively impact our lives. As I was deciding who to write my letter to this year, I knew I needed to let you all know how grateful I am to have camp in my life. All of you bring so much happiness to me and all the other campers. The one week of camp each summer is one of the greatest of the year. I love knowing that I have a big, loving family at CQ, a family that understands each other’s hardships, shares each other’s joy, and  is filled with hope. As I approach my final year of camp this coming summer, I must say that I am eternally grateful for all the unforgettable memories that camp has granted me, the many friends I’ve made, and for being able to be a  part of such an incredible community. You guys work so hard to make camp happen each summer, and know that I never take that work for granted. I love you guys and cannot wait to see you at the reunion this month! Sincerely, Claire (camper, age 15). 5

Camp Quality is a 501(C)3, non-profit organization whose mission is to support children with cancer and their families. There are currently 15 camps in 11 different states, with over 900 children participating each year. Camp Quality Kentuckiana offers children ages 6-16 a one-week camping experience and provides these special children a unique opportunity to be kids again. Campers enjoy a wide and exciting range of activities including: swimming, fishing, crafts, games, music, fire engines, hot air balloons, fireworks shows, and boating. Best of all, our campers form loving, caring relationships with other campers and their own caring companion. Our various activities throughout the year provide our campers and their families opportunities to socialize with each other. Camp Quality Kentuckiana cannot survive without our volunteers and charitable giving. To give these children a truly memorable experience, a week of camp proves to be very expensive, both in funds and manpower. If you have any interest in getting involved with Camp Quality in any capacity, please contact our office at (502) 507-3235. We will be happy to send you more information on this truly special organization. You can also find more information on our websites: Camp Quality Kentuckiana: www.campqualityky.com Camp Quality USA, Inc.: www.campqualityusa.com

As long as there are children with cancer, we will strive to support them. Camp Quality is all about hope—hope for a cure, hope for the future.
