GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE Last month I indicated in my column that we intended to launch a newly designed program guide and website – and so we have! We hope as you look through this guide that you’ll appreciate the color throughout, the new 3 column pages, and other special features. I’m grateful to our Promotions Manager and program guide editor Jennifer Amend for leading the “revision” process, and a very special thanks to graphic designer Bre Skaggs, who took the focus group feedback and came up with this new layout. The new design was also a prime opportunity to seek new bids for printing, and we’re pleased to announce that Pioneer Printing of Cheyenne was again the successful bidder. So it’s a new chapter for Wyoming PBS communications, including our new, streamlined website, which deserves much praise for our webmaster Craig Blumenshine. Great job everyone… Wyoming PBS is hosting a “Downton Abbey” screening event in Sheridan, and you’re invited! The first hour of Season IV of “Downton” will be screened at the Wyo Theatre in Sheridan on Friday, December 20, at 7 pm; it is free and open to the public. You might also enjoy the planned viewing marathon for seasons 1 & 2 of “Downton Abbey” on Wyoming PBS scheduled on the last two Sundays of the month, Dec. 22 & 29. See page 5 for details. December brings 2013 to a close with some wonderful holiday programs, and of course, our traditional December membership festival. To spice up our festival, we have received a very generous gift from Jackson photographer Thomas D. Mangelsen – his famous photograph “Teton Rush Hour” – which will be auctioned live on December 15th. For more information and to place an early bid, check it out on our website. Finally, as a special gift to our Wyoming viewers this month, our production team is taping a new local production… “Buffalo Bluegrass Christmas”, which will be taped at the Occidental Hotel in Buffalo, Wyoming and premieres on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 7 pm. On behalf of the entire staff of Wyoming PBS, we thank you for your support this past year and extend our best wishes for a happy holiday season,

Missile Silo Living

Beginning with the Cold War of the 1950’s and continuing through the present day, Wyoming has been a repository for our ultimate weapon - the nuclear missiles buried in silos. But as arms talks have progressed, the number of missiles has been greatly reduced. But that leaves the question: what to do with an obsolete missile silo? Producer Margaret Benson introduces us to a couple who have found the perfect solution.

Gay Rights Update

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the death of Matthew Shepard. As more and more states embrace same-sex marriage, there are signs that Wyoming is edging in the same direction. Other signs: a gay marriage bill that did better than expected in the last legislature, and the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that struck down the Defense of Marriage Act.
