Background There are many types of forests on Earth. The effects of humans can be seen in every habitat on Earth and that includes forests. We will be investigating different types of forests and the way humans have changed them. Guiding Question What impact do humans have on forests? Lesson Sequence Display the image Tropical Rain Forest and use the Quick Write strategy to provide students 60 seconds to write as many facts as they know about the image. Repeat this process with the following images: Coniferous Forest and Deciduous Forests-. As a class or in small groups, complete a 3-circle Venn Diagram comparing the 3 different types of forests (example). Play the video segment titled “Human Impact on the Tropical Rain Forest” (end video at 6 minutes 30 seconds). As you have students watch, pause the video approximately every 60 seconds and provide students an opportunity to respond to the clip by utlizing the A-E-I-O-U strategy listing at least 1 thing for from each of the following categories: Adjective, Emotion, Interesting, Oh, Um. Following the segment, have students pair share their responses and then share whole group. Ask students to consider what can be done to help conserve the forest. Activities Option 1:  Write a journal entry from the perspective of something in the forest watching the human impact. Option 2:  Using markers and construction paper, create an infographic about the impact humans make on the forest.
