Dining Club Membership Frequently Asked Questions • 2014-15

What are the requirements for each level of meal plan?

Students residing in University housing are required to purchase a Dining Club Membership. First year students are required to purchase either the Platinum or Gold Memberships. The Bronze Membership is only available to students who live off-campus or reside in an on-campus apartment. Students residing in off-campus University apartments who are 21 years of age (by August 15 [fall] or January 10 [spring]) or older are eligible to opt-out of the meal plan requirement. Those students who are under 21 years of age are required to purchase one of the four Dining Club Memberships.

Will I be able to change my meal plan? When?

Yes. You have the ability change your Dining Club Membership up to 2-weeks after the first day of classes. There will be a price adjustment for meal plan changes.

What if I have food allergies, gluten free, will there be options for me?

If you have special dietary needs, please report those to the Office of Student Affairs. Accommodations will be made on a case by case basis.

Will the meals still be buffet style, all you can eat?

No. The new Dining Club Memberships provide combo meals for purchase with a swipe or Dining Dollars utilizing your Braves Card. Combo meal options will vary and be posted daily.

What if practice runs late, will I still be able to eat?

This new dining format actually provides longer hours to be able to eat. The Gibson Student Center will have five dining stations where you can use swipes and/or Dining Dollars. A minimum of two of those stations will be open 7:00 a.m. through 11:00 p.m. (unless otherwise posted), to allow for more flexibility for getting meals.

Will the menu have prices for those without a Dining Club Membership?

Yes. The Gibson Student Center will be inviting to off-campus guest and students not on meal plans, as the cost will be clearly articulated with each item.

Will anyone be allowed to eat in the dining area?

The Hetrick Bistro is open during the Gibson Student Center hours. A purchase is not required to enter the seating arena. Guests are welcome to purchase items within the Hetrick Bistro.

Can I swipe for friends or family?

Yes. Any swipes done with your Braves Card will be deducted from your allotted amount. You are welcome to use your swipes for anyone you choose.

What if my Braves Card gets stolen or lost?

You should IMMEDIATELY report a lost or stolen card to the Office of Student Affairs, so that the card can be inactivated and a new one re-issued.

What if I’m gone for a week and on the Bronze level membership do I lose them?

Swipes in the Bronze level membership are able to be utilized throughout the semester. You will only lose swipes at the end of each semester. Students on the weekly plans will lose their swipes at the end of the week (Sunday).

Can I get things to go?

Pre-packaged items are available for purchase at the stations in the Gibson Student Center.

If I am with a team and get a sack lunch will they take it off my Dining Club Membership? Yes, the to-go lunch will be deducted from your total swipes (one per meal).

Will I be able to use dining dollars anywhere outside the food station?

Dining Dollars are only available to be utilized within the Gibson Student Center facility. You may add Braves Cash to your Braves Card that can be used at other locations on campus, including vending machines, Braves Fan Shop/University Bookstore, laundry, Copy Center, etc.

What do I do if there are leftovers?

You may request a to-go container from one of the serving stations.

Will the beverage machines be open or will I have to wait to get a refill?

Each meal purchase comes with refills using the cup provided with your original swipe or purchase. Those refills will be provided by the serving staff at the dining stations.

If I run out of swipes can I put cash on my card?

You are always able to add funds to your Braves Card in the form of Dining Dollars. Funds can be added online at https://BravesCard.ottawa.edu, in the Business Office or at the ADM located in Behan Hall (beginning fall 2015).
