NEW REVIEW ‐‐ THURTLE / Emergency Urology. TFM Publishing, 2017, $49.95. [AUTHOR] Thurtle, David, BMedSci, BMBS, MRCS; Biers, Suzanne, BSc, MBBS, MD, FRCS (Urol); Sut, Michal, Lek, Med, MMedSci, FRCS (Urol); Armitage, James, BSc, MBBS, MD, FRCS, (Urol) [BIBLIOGRAPHIC DATA] ISBN: 978‐1‐910079‐42‐3, 195 pages, soft cover. [DOODY'S NOTES] [REVIEWER'S EXPERT OPINION] Daniel P Verges, MD(Thomas Jefferson University) **Description** This practical, handbook‐sized reference and guide to emergency urology is structured in a top‐down anatomical fashion, traveling from the nephron to the urethral meatus, to arm readers with the knowledge and skills to manage some emergent urologic conditions without the immediate presence or input of a urologist. **Purpose** While the authors hail from the U.K., their aim to educate emergency medicine physicians, residents, advanced practice providers, and medical students about emergent urologic conditions is successful and generalizable to healthcare settings worldwide. Indeed, in the U.S., many hospitals have scarce urology coverage due to an aging population and a limited supply of urology trainees. This is a necessary addition to both the urology and emergency medicine literature as the initial management of emergent urologic conditions may fall to ER physicians, primary care providers, and general surgeons. **Audience** This book is unique in that it is written by urologists for nonurologists. The contributing authors include urologists, nephrologists, interventional radiologists, and pediatric urology staff. **Features** The book features eight chapters and two appendixes, organized by genitourinary anatomic location for quick reference. An abbreviation section at the beginning of the book enables readers to quickly learn the parlance of urology. Its particular strengths include figures, tables, high‐definition pictures of urologic pathology, and cross‐sectional imaging studies. Key Points boxes throughout each chapter emphasize salient knowledge and illustrations aid in the memorization and incorporation of the urologic differential diagnosis. The greatest value of the book lies in its illustrations noting urologic incisions and their possible meanings, pictures of Mitrofanoff and Monti channels, and diagrams of urinary diversion stomata. These exam findings are well known to urologists but new, and potentially daunting, to the uninitiated. Similarly, the last two chapters are paramount as they outline emergency urologic and interventional radiologic procedures for urologic emergencies. Although the thrust of this work is to help emergency medicine personnel triage and manage urologic emergencies, the book is responsible in being quite clear when a urology consult is absolutely necessary. In this vein, this book is also useful to junior urology house staff while on call and to new practicing urologists as they prepare for oral board certification.

**Assessment** This is a well‐written, high‐quality reference for urologists, ER physicians, and allied health staff that fits in a white coat pocket for easy access. With this addition to the literature, the authors improve access to emergency urology care. ‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐ Weighted Numerical Score: 94 ‐ 4 Stars!
