your language school in Norway Alfa Skolen is a private language school that specializes in education for both foreigners and Norwegians. The school is officially recognised by VOX, the Norwegian Agency for Lifelong Learning, as a private institution offering 600 compulsory hours of teaching in the Norwegian language and knowledge of the Norwegian community. As such, our courses fulfil the Norwegian language education and hour criteria necessary for obtaining Norwegian citizenship or permanent residence ( for more information on citizenship or residence application processes and requirements, visit www.udi.no ).

Ranging from six to fourteen participants per course, our small groups enable teachers to maximize their attention on the individual student while guaranteeing them a dynamic learning environment. 3 NORWEGIAN

Semester

Course grammar:

Norwegian semester 3 is the third level of Norwegian language courses offered at Alfa Skolen. It is designed for those who have completed their Norwegian studies at level B1 or have completed their work with the book "Stein på stein" or equivalent. Students develop a working knowledge of the Norwegian language and study at the intermediate to advanced level of Norwegian. The course covers the entire contents of the book "Her på Berget". Participants of this course complete their studies at level B2 based on language levels as described in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

After completing the course, participants will continue to build their vocabulary and be able to understand more written and oral language in the media. They will be able to write more complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics.

Alfa TIP: Take a grammar course to review and strengthen your Norwegian grammar skills. Participants can take the Bergenstest (test i Norsk h¸yere nivå) after successfully completing this course. Take a Bergenstest preparation course to help prepare for the Bergenstest.

Participants will begin to use complex verb forms and descriptions in their everyday conversations. Simple transactions and conversations will become easier and they will more easily understand and speak Norwegian with less strain. They will have a more in-depth understanding of Norwegian history, culture, politics, and expression.

OYP One Year Program's

CURRICULUM

The course includes the three levels of Norwegian courses taught at Alfa Skolen, a social study course and an additional grammar course. Social studies focus on Norwegian culture, society, history, mentality, and tradition. The study plan is built on the basis of "L¿replan i norsk og samfunnsfag for voksne innvandrere", the official curriculum for teaching the Norwegian language as a foreign language and community studies for adult immigrants program developed by VOX.

The One-Year Program (OYP) is a full-time Norwegian language study course designed for those who are interested in comprehensive study of Norwegian from "A til Å" (from A to Z). The course includes twenty hours of study a week. The program is approximately nine months long and lasts from October to June. Sessions are held daily from Monday to Thursday from 8:45 to 13:00. Each session consists of 5 lesson hours (each of 45 minutes) for a total of 620 lesson hours.

The material covered in the program equates to learning levels A1, A2, B1, and B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

ergenstest preparation

The Bergenstest exam is a Norwegian language state exam for people applying for acceptance at universities and other educational institutions in Norway, employees who must document their competence in the Norwegian language, or those who may want to test their Norwegian language comprehension.

COURSES

This course is intended for those who plan on taking the Bergenstest exam ('test i norsk - h¸yere nivå') and are at the advanced levels (B2/C1) according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The course will help participants understand the structure and different types of exercises that comprise the Bergenstest. The teacher will guide the participants through example tests from previous years and give students test-taking tips. The course is 12 sessions long. Each session consists of 3 lesson hours (each of 45 minutes) for a total of 36 hours. Sessions are equally comprised of theoretical and practical study. Substantial homework and written work is given. Materials are included in the course price. The course reviews Norwegian grammar but participants also learn how to write essays and other examples of writing in Norwegian.

After successfully completing the course, participants will be familiar with how the Bergenstest is organized and understand the different exercises that make up the Bergenstest. They will have improved their ability to write more complex essays and understand and improve their listening comprehension skills.

Au Pair

COURSES

Course grammar:

The Au Pair language courses are specially designed for Au Pairs and people who work with children on a daily basis. Course participants learn the vocabulary use in daily situations while working with children including shopping, doctor's visits, and daily domestic work. The first part of the course is devoted to quickly and effectively teaching Norwegian communication basics so that the Au Pair might actively participate in the daily life of the family. The second part of the course places greater emphasis on grammar. The course is approximately 10 weeks long (40 sessions). Sessions are held daily from Monday to Thursday in the morning or in the afternoon. Each session consists of 4 lesson hours each of 45 minutes) for a total of 160 lesson hours. Coursework includes material from the book "Godt Sagt 1" as well as additional material prepared by the teacher on children's subjects, childcare, and homecare. Books are not included in the course price and may be purchased at our school or in most bookshops.

Course subjects:

Family and family relations, daily routine for childcare (playtime, bedtime, etc.), people and things, days and parts of the day, months and seasons, weather, telling time, seasonal activities for children, health and the body, unexpected events and accidents, a visit to the doctor, telephone conversations with emergency personnel (police, ambulance, fire brigade), shopping at the grocery store (names of grocery items, what we eat for breakfast and lunch) and clothing shop (names of clothing, shoes, etc.), transport, post office, bank, preschool and school, children's songs, Norwegian fairy tales, hobbies, music, animals, flowers and plants, and other subjects relative to daily life in a Norwegian family.

After completion of the course:

Alfa TIP: Participants can continue their Norwegian studies with our Semester 2 course after successfully completing this course.

Personal pronouns, regular and irregular verbs in present tense, question words, word order, singular and plural form, den, det, and de, cardinal and ordinal numbers, direct objects, modal verbs + infinitives, adverbs of place, adjectives in indefinite form, pronouns denne, dette, disse, and hvilken, hvilket, hvilke, reflexive pronouns, imperative form, indirect speech, derfor and fordi, conjugation of regular verbs in simple past tense, temporal phrases used when discussing past, present, and future (for -siden, i and om), possessive pronouns, fordi and for å, da as an adverb and as used in the subjunctive form, present perfect verb tense for regular and irregular verbs, genitive nouns and pronouns, adjectives in the definite form, mange and mye, whole and clausal sentence structure, som- sentences, comparative and superlative adjectives, synes and tror, prepositions of time (hos, til) and place (om, i, på), clausal sentences about time using da and når, modal verbs in simple past tense.

After completing the Au Pair language course, the participants will have completed level A2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). They will be able to communicate and complete tasks and activities necessary for daily childcare, complete daily shopping, make doctor's appointments, give and receive directions and instructions, and teach and play with the children using common Norwegian phrases and games. They will be able to hold conversations about food, weather, locations, and general everyday life.

courses Summer intensive courses are dynamic and active and intended to help participants become more effective when communicating in Norwegian. The course uses a flexible approach in which the instructor can vary their methods based on the group's needs. Although we emphasise a pleasant "holiday" atmosphere, the course is intense, which significantly accelerates the language-learning progress. The coursework focuses on comprehension of written and spoken Norwegian and improving pronunciation. The course length varies from one to eight weeks depending on your needs. Sessions are held daily from Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 11:30. Each session consists of 3 lesson hours (each of 45 minutes) for a total of 15 lesson hours per week.

These courses are offered especially for those who wish to use the summer holiday period to begin the study of a foreign language. The courses can also be used to improve your current level, review your language knowledge in an intensive "summer" way, or simply maintain contact with the language between courses.

Participants purchase the desired number of weeks. Materials are included in the price of the course and are prepared for lessons by the teacher according to the requirements of participants.

The Easter intense course is intended for those who wish to use the Easter holiday period to either begin the study of a foreign language or to maintain contact with the language between courses. Participants practice grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and listening comprehension at systematically prepared lessons. The course includes a large amount of conversation and listening exercises, and significant emphasis is placed on grammar and its use.

The course meets five days a week, Monday through Friday, and continues for approximately one week.

COURSE MATERIAL is prepared from lesson to lesson by the teacher according to the requirements of the participants and is included in the course price.

Each session is 5 lesson hours (45 minutes each) for a total of 25 lesson hours.

Then individual lessons may be a great fit for you. Taking individual (private) lessons is one of the most intensive and effective methods to learn a foreign language. Instruction is designed according to your speed and interest, and you have the teacher's full attention. Lessons are adapted to your requirements, interests, and previous experience in Norwegian. They can be used for anything from preparing for an interview or a presentation of business ideas at work, or simply learning useful phrases and vocabulary. The course schedule is flexible and scheduled to meet your needs. Individual courses can be arranged for a single participant or if you prefer, for groups of up to three participants.

Your needs and objectives are first analysed and then used to create a personalised program for you adapted to your requirements and schedule.

Alfa Skolen Spanish courses are based on language levels as described in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). They will help participants develop linguistic abilities essential to understanding and being understood in Spanish in everyday life and in professional situations. We use various methods and teaching techniques to develop the participants' four language competencies: writing, reading, speaking and verbal comprehension. Particular emphasis is placed on developing practical abilities in the use of the Spanish language. Participants work on grammar, expanding their vocabulary, and learning fluent and accurate communication.

Courses are provided twice a weekly on either Mondays and Wednesdays or on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Each session consists of 3 teaching units (each of 45 minutes) for a total of 30 lessons hours (10 sessions). Spanish courses 1 – 3 correspond with CEFR level A1, Spanish courses 4 – 7 correspond with CEFR level A2, and Spanish courses 8 – 9 correspond with CEFR level B1.

Spanish 1 is for those who have not studied Spanish previously, have very basic linguistic knowledge, or have had a long break since last studying Spanish. The course focuses on Chapters 1 to 4 of the book "Caminos 1." Developing the ability to react in simple and specific daily life situations (presentation and greetings, asking basic questions and giving information concerning private life), rules of pronunciation, cardinal numbers, country names, professions, asking for directions, obtaining information, city life, transportation, expressing likes and dislikes, cultural elements of Spanishspeaking countries. Defined and undefined articles, gender, singular and plural form, conjugation of regular and basic irregular verbs in the present tense, differentiation of ser/estar and hay/estar, tener and ir, prepositions en and de, personal and possessive pronouns. After completing Spanish 1, participants will be able to establish basic contact, ask for directions, conduct short telephone conversations and begin to have the feeling that Spanish is a simple language.

Course subjects: Spanish 2 is appropriate for those who have completed Spanish 1 at Alfa Skolen or have basic knowledge of Spanish vocabulary, present verb tense, and are capable of conducting basic dialogues. The course focuses on Chapters 5 to 8 of the book "Caminos 1." Everyday activities (grocery shopping, asking about prices of goods), weights and measures, vocabulary related to food/restaurants, telling time, shopping for clothes, comparisons, expressing preferences, cultural elements of Spanish-speaking countries. Verbs with a vowel change, present tense irregular verbs, direct object pronouns, impersonal pronoun, demonstrative pronouns, indirect object pronouns, adjectives, comparative and superlative, use of muy and mucho. After completing Spanish 2, participants will be able to go grocery shopping, buy clothes and discuss sizes, conduct personal conversations (introduce oneself and use correct phrases), discuss a journey, compose short notes on subject of choice.

Spanish 3 is appropriate for those who have taken Spanish 2 at Alfa Skolen or have some previous experience with learning the Spanish language. The course focuses on Chapters 9 to 12 of the book "Caminos 1." Family relations, expressing feelings, describing people, talking on the phone, travel (booking a hotel, buying tickets making reservations), leisure time, weather, seasons and months, cultural elements of Spanish-speaking countries. Relative sentences with que and donde, introducing periphrastic constructions: estar + gerundio, modal verbs, ordinal numbers, orientation, past tense (preterito indefinido). After completing Spanish 3, participants will be able to discuss family, what they like to do in their free time, travel in Spanish-speaking countries, use Spanish timetables, and discuss and exchange opinions on current daily subjects.

Spanish 4 is appropriate for those who have taken Spanish 3 at Alfa Skolen or have adequate knowledge of the Spanish language. The course focuses on Chapters 1 to 4 of the book "Caminos 2." Living conditions before and now, vocabulary associated with a flat/apartment (description, sale offers), habits, hobbies, speaking about memories, telling stories and anecdotes, human body and health (parts of the body, sicknesses, visiting the doctor, how one is feeling), cultural elements of Spanish-speaking countries. Imperfecto and indefinido, adverbs, imperative (regular and irregular verbs). After completing Spanish 4, participants will be able to talk about differences, make comparisons, evaluate situations, tell simple jokes in Spanish, name body parts and hold simple conversations about health.

Spanish 5 is intended for those who have taken Spanish 4 at Alfa Skolen or have knowledge of the verb tenses indefinido and imperfecto. The course focuses on Chapters 5 to 8 of the book "Caminos 2." Writing and answering invitations, birthday traditions, asking for and giving advice, asking for favors, making complaints, workplace and workday, cultural elements of Spanish-speaking countries. Use of ir and venir, use ¿Qué?, ¿Cuál?, ¿Cuáles?, conditionals (regular verbs decir, hacer, poder, poner, tener, venir), revision of direct and indirect pronouns, participle perfect, negative imperative, prepositions por and para, future tense. After completing Spanish 5, participants will be able to give a birthday party and send invitations, give advice, express dissatisfaction and ask for a remedy, and talk about their work and future plans.

Spanish 6 is intended for those who have completed Spanish 5 at Alfa Skolen or are capable of using the past tenses indefinido, imperfecto, negative imperative, and the future tense. The course focuses on Chapters 9 to 12 of the book "Caminos 2." Life stages (birth, childhood, adulthood, etc.), political matters, holidays and cultural traditions, gestures and body languages, cultural misunderstandings, nationalities, giving opinions, cultural elements of Spanish-speaking countries. Undefined pronouns (alguien, nadie, algo, nada, alguno), use of past indicative mood tenses and contrast of these tenses (introduction of pretérito pluscuamperfecto), conjunctions (pero, sino, en cambio, en vez de), conjunctive verb groups (tener, decir, seguir, venir, hacer, conocer), imperfecto and indefinido, exclamations (vaya, venga, anda, vale). After completing Spanish 6, participants will be able to understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of immediate relevance. They will be able to communicate about familiar and routine matters, and describe his everyday life.

The course focuses on Chapters 9 to 12 of the book "Español en marcha 3." Reading and understanding news, travel and accommodation, shopping, traditions, celebrations and holidays. Passive voice, tiempos de la narración, direct and indirect objects, expressions of quantity. After completing Spanish 9, participants are ready to communicate in everyday situations and understand the main ideas of most conversations. They will feel comfortable using the Spanish language on a regular basis.
