Introduction This section provides information on new products and functionalities for EVS’ Gateway solutions to facilitate the exchange of media between EVS and third-party systems.

XTAccess 1.19 XTAccess is used as a gateway solution to facilitate media interchange between EVS’ XT3 and XS production systems with third-party tools (post-production, switchers, controllers, storage, archives, file-based camcorders, automation, graphics, MAM, etc.). As it is considered as an Engineering tool it is not developed in details within this Newsletter. If however, more information is needed about XTAccess’ new Release, please refer to the Release Note on EVS’ website.

XSquare vs. XTAccess An important element to notice is that by default, XTAccess will be controlled by XSquare from version 1.19 and above.

Compatibility with IPDirector 6 Another important element is that IPDirector 6 requires XSquare (XTAccess 1.19 – Xsquare 1.01). The consequence is that if you upgrade your IPDirector to version 6 you will need to install XSquare. Information about XSquare can be found in the section hereunder. On the other hand, if you need to upgrade XTAccess to version 1.19 (e.g. for some new functionalities offered), you will also need to upgrade IPDirector to version 6 and also use XSquare 1.01.

XSquare 1.01 The goal of the XSquare solution is to act as an orchestrator that receives job requests and dispatches them to the appropriate engine (load balancing, JOB API, etc), which means an available engine that is able to manage the requested job (transcoding, rewrap, etc). The engines will first be limited to XTAccess. All the jobs for XTAccess will go through XSquare, which will be the central point to control XTAccess. XTAccess will not be directly visible to the users any more. The main advantages of this architecture are the following: • • • •

One global orchestrator for all the jobs → improvement of jobs load balancing, dispatching and management. One global configuration tool → simplification of the engines’ configuration as well as the targets configuration. One global monitoring tool → simplification of the monitoring of all the jobs. Additional modules (Scan Folder, Scan XML v1) can be added to XSquare → modularity

Improvements and New Functionalities The major improvement offered on the user side is the new monitoring window.

The window includes the following features: • • • • •

The possibility to chose the columns to display in the monitoring window The possibility to filter and to sort on each column3 The possibility to retrieve all the information on one specific job The possibility to save the layout of the monitoring windows on different tabs that are automatically saved by user New right click menu to cancel and retry the selected job

Upcoming Releases EVS Avid Tools 3.03 A new version of the EVS Avid Integration tools will be released a bit later on this fall including the following major elements: • •

Improvement of the Restore performance from Avid to the EVS environment Compatibility with Interplay 2.6

IPLog2Post IPLog2Post is a new solution that intends to instantly provide Avid NLE editors with information about the IPDirector IPLogger session: log operations (create, update and delete) and log sheets (create, update, link/unlink to media and publish/unpublish). The solution will also be released soon this fall.

Workflow

1. Streaming to Avid storage is scheduled in IPDirector and linked to IPLogger log sheet. 2. Ingested streams are performed alongside logging sessions. 3. Media is streamed to Avid storage and referenced in Avid Interplay. 4. XTAccess/XSquare provides the system information about media streamed to Avid storage. 5. IPLog2Post system receives information from IPLogger logging session. 6. IPLog2Post system receives information from media that was streamed to Avid Storage. 7. IPLog2Post system submits information to Avid Interplay about IPLogger logging session.

Logging session information available in NLE: o log operations: new, update, delete o log sheet operations: link to media, unlink from media and relink to another media, update, delete and publish/unpublish. IPDirector user credentials during logging sessions Every log session action is instantly available in Avid Interplay Database redundancy available (SQL Server mandatory) Possibility to work with dedicated Avid Interplay Web Server A monitoring window enables to monitor different elements such as: o Statistics: number of IPD logs created, number of media and logs reference in Avid Interplay o Error messages about logs o Status of the services (Running/Stopped) needed for the operation of IPLog2Post

XFile 2.19 The version 2.19 of XFile that will be released a bit later on this fall, preserves the XNet SDTI compatibility and includes the following features or improvements: •

• • •

SuperSlowMotion 6x and 10x: XFile supports the backup and restore process for SuperSlowMotion clips 6x and 10x in EVS.MXF format. It supports backup of these clips in two modes: o Real Time mode where only one frame out of the 6 or 10 is kept together with the audio o All Frames mode where the entire frames of the SuperSlowMotion clip will be kept AutoFilename format string has been reviewed AAF files are now generated with OPAtom file format With the Multicam 10.04 problems were encountered when backing up IMX files: these problems – corrupted files that could not be restored again on an EVS server - have been solved with this new release.

XFly Streamer 1.01 Introduction XFly Streamer is an interface software dedicated to the backup of streams from one or several EVS video servers (XT2, XT2+, XT3, XS, and XTnano). For the first version, which has been released in April of this year, it is recommended to use it in combination with EVS’ XFly systems. It allows a simple tool to quickly transfer all camera angles to a postproduction facility

XFly Streamer manages the backup and transfer of all streams selected by the operator. It acts as a user interface for the background running XTAccess file transfer application. XFly Streamer sends its commands to XTAccess using the XML jobs files.

XFly The XFly system which is used in combination with XFly Streamer is a compact and portable storage platform that encloses eight removable standard SATA hard disk drives (2.5 inches) offering up to 8TB storage with a maximum capacity of 140 hours of HD at 100Mbps. Once the streams have been completed, the box can be transferred, plugged in a standard Ethernet network and editors can begin their job.

6 operator to manage streams. The major key features of the XFly Streamer is the software application that will enable the application are the following: • • • • •

The different servers present on the network are automatically detected A confidence view (with thumbnails) of channels is displayed A selection of different output formats is possible but the XTAccess is restricted to file transfer with wrapping when required but cannot perform any format transcoding A single command can quickly start/stop the recording of all channels selected The system enables to record simultaneously up to 12 channels

New Features of version 1.01 The Release 1.01 of XFly Streamer that will come out a bit later on this fall, will include the following major features: • • • •

• •

Discovery of 2 VLANs Add CAMLABEL information: the camera label information coming from the EVS servers is now displayed in the User Interface. Start with TC defined in the past: it is now possible to start a stream from a timecode defined in the past (as long as the media is still available on the EVS servers) Retry streaming jobs: when a streaming job has failed, the system will retry to start it automatically. After five unsuccessful attempts it will however be possible to retry that specific job but manually this time from the interface Creating AVID “folders structure”: from the options menu it is possible now to create automatically a folders’ structure to save OPAtom+AAF Files EVS Server list review: the display coherence of the different EVS servers and related record channels has been improved

Alerts through EVS’ Website

It is now also possible to receive automatic alerts about different kind of topics through the website: technical updates, new jobs, new training sessions and newsletters. The alerts can be defined through the “My EVS” section in the “My Alerts” area where the selection of the Resource type can be done. It is possible to select the type of resource (Whole Package, Software update, Manuals, etc.) and the product you are interested in. Once the type of resource and the products are selected you will be informed when new information is made available.

The resource type “Package” will automatically inform you when New Releases are available for the whole XT-XS Package. An e-mail will be sent when it’s the case with links to the Release Notes, Software packages and manuals of the download area.
