Dear Friends, Catholic Charities responds to the growing needs of Santa Clara County by developing innovative and effective ways to cut poverty. Toward this end, we are honored to present Catholic Charities’ Annual Report for Fiscal Year 2011-2012.

for individuals who would otherwise be unemployed. As a founding member of the Step Up Silicon Valley network to cut poverty, we initiated a planning process to bring social impact financing to the county. We are happy to report that for the fourth year in a row, we received Charity Navigator’s four-star rating and our administrative costs remained low at 14 percent, strengthening our ability to serve more than 36,000 county residents. We invite you to learn more about our dynamic programs through the stories of people we have served as well as through our indicators of success. Our commitment is to serve people of all cultures and beliefs through a hand up, not a hand out. We applaud the efforts of our donors, funders, volunteers, partners, staff, and participants who are working together to help end poverty in Silicon Valley.

C AT H O L I C C H A R I T I E S O F S A N TA C L A R A C O U N T Y · A N N U A L R E P O R T 2 0 1 1 – 2 0 1 2 Dear Friends, As Christians, we strive to see with the eyes of Christ. Although many of us in this Valley of Saint Clare are blessed with prosperity, we see many others who do not have what they need to live their lives with dignity and self esteem. When we witness the struggles of our neighbors, we are moved to offer them compassion and assistance. As the Holy Father has said, charity is not a welfare activity that we can expect others to do for us. Charity is as important in the life of the Church as are the Sacraments and the Word of God. Each time we engage in an act of charity, we convey an expression of our faith. Each individual act of charity is wonderful, yet in combining our resources through the work of Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County, we can have an even greater effect on the community. On behalf of our local Church, Catholic Charities ministers to the poor and to the poor in spirit. As you know, the agency does much more than take care of the immediate needs of individuals and families in crisis. Its programs provide people with specific skills and tools so that they may live more purposeful lives. But, Catholic Charities is also guided by the recognition of our common humanity and worth in the eyes of God and works to restore the dignity and hope of the people it serves. As the Chairman of Catholic Charities Board of Directors, I thank you for your generous support of Catholic Charities this past year. Your gifts make our love of God visible in the love of our neighbor. It is a comfort to me, as it must be to all of our brothers and sisters in Christ, to know that because of Catholic Charities, our Church is able to help many thousands who are in need. Through our shared concern for the poor and marginalized, we are one community united in compassion, dignity, and faith. With every best wish and kind regard, I remain, Sincerely yours, Patrick J. Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County has once again received Charity Navigator’s coveted 4-Star rating for sound fiscal management and for our ability to efficiently manage and grow our finances. Charity Navigator rates Catholic Charities as being exceptional for “exceeding industry standards and outperforming most charities in its cause.” The 4-Star rating shows donors how efficiently a charity will use their support today, and to what extent the charities are growing their programs and services over time.
