Cadena de Amor
Cadena de Amor (Antigonon leptopus L.) is a creeping and climbing vine with evergreen leaves. It creeps on fences and gates; it climbs on concrete ladders, on trees and even on shrubs and bushes. Cadena de Amor is widely distributed in a tropical environment like the Philippines. This plant has attractive, charming, dainty pink and white flowers. From afar one would perceive the flowers like little hearts in chains. That’s the main reasons why it is locally called “Cadena de Amor”. Inspite of the beauty of “Cadena de Amor” flowers, it is but short-lived. You see them for a week but they would gently fade and fall away………….just like man. He is here today and gone tomorrow. You may be reading this write-up right now . But, you’ll never be sure if you will still be here tomorrow. “Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” James 4:14 “As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone and its place remembers it no more.” Psalm 103:15 Like the Cadena de Amor flowers, man’s existence is but temporary. The number of his days has already been determined. “All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” Psalm 139: 16 “Man’s days are determined; you have decreed the number of his months and have set limits he cannot exceed”. Job 14:5
Since life is short, it is best to make the most of our time and to live life to the fullest. “So teach us to number our days aright that we may gain a heart of wisdom” . Psalm 91 It will be sensible if we take the following course of action so that we can make the most of our fleeting existence: Put your trust in Someone who knows you truly well and who holds your tomorrow – that’s God. (Psalm 139) “My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” Psalm 139:15-16 Live in the here and now. It is good to plan for the future but not to be overly anxious about it. Please know that Someone who knows you best has a wonderful plan for your life and your future – that’s God. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:11 You might have this big question in your mind: Q. How can I put my trust in God if I don’t know Him in a personal way?
A. There is no one else in the entire universe who loves you with an everlasting love. He died for you on the cross of Calvary. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but shall have everlasting life” John 3:16 You can depend on Him and you can cast your burdens upon Him for He cares about you. “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” 1Peter 5:7 If you are anxious about your future, or if you are burdened by sin or some guilt in your life, God is inviting you to cast all these burdens upon Him. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28 If you would like to pay attention to this call, then you may pray this prayer: Dear God, my life is short just like Cadena de Amor flowers. Please give me wisdom on how I could make the most of my brief and fleeting existence. Thank you that You have loved me with an everlasting love. You have shown this love for me when You died for me on the cross of Calvary. Therefore, I can entrust my future into your hands. Many times I have worried about my future and I have been running my life, trusting in my shortsighted perspective. Forgive me because I have not put my trust in you.
From now on, I put my trust in You completely. I receive You as the personal savior and Lord of my life. Amen.
