Finishing Fringe: Using crochet hook, attach CC yarn to RS edge with a slip stitch. Chain 5, then insert hook into next edge stitch and do one (1) single crochet. Continue to end of edge row with ch 5, sc. Fasten off and repeat fringe for opposite edge.

Embroidery Find the center of the fan portion of the scarf (stitch 10, if the pattern was done with 20 cast on stitches). Using CC and tapestry needle, bring needle up through fringe edge and begin a backstitch, outlining the center of the scarf ( ). Note: For backstitch instructions see http://www.stitchguide.com/stitches/embroidery/stit ch_pages/emb_backstitch.html Note: Be sure to draw stitch beneath each garter ridge row, as in the picture shown to the left. Continue single line of backstitch in this manner until you reach the other edge of the scarf. Fasten off yarn and weave in ends. I also used the backstitch to highlight the second, third and fourth rows of the fan pattern on each edge of the scarf in a 3-5-7 progression off the center line ( ). Fasten off yarn and weave in ends.
