What is FCS? Family & Consumer Sciences is the study of the relationships among people and their personal environments. Students who major in Family & Consumer Sciences learn to improve the quality of life for individuals and families across the life span. They study issues related to food and nutrition, apparel and interior design, child development and family relations, and family and consumer resource management. The Department is accredited by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.

What is Interior Design? The Interior Design Program prepares students to analyze, design, and implement living/working environments that are functionally efficient and aesthetically satisfying to diverse populations in a wide range of settings. The program embraces an environment and behavior perspective, which acknowledges the interrelatedness between people, at various ages and developmental stages, and the interior environments, in which they live, work and recreate.
FIDER Accredited The Interior Design program in FCS is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) which is recognized as the reliable authority on interior design education by the U.S. Department of Education and the Commission on Recognition of Postsecondary Accreditation (CORPA).

Total Units in the Option (68-70 units) General Education (48 units) The purpose of General Education is to broaden one’s intellectual background and provide a foundation in liberal arts education. Students may receive credit for a GE course in FCS as long as it is not required in the major.
