Instructions for using this list of Kentucky-Approved HIV/AIDS Continuing Education courses The Kentucky Revised Statutes (KRS) 214.610 and 214.620 mandate HIV/AIDS education for health professionals. All applicants for initial licensure must comply with the statutory requirement for two (2) hours of HIV/AIDS education approved by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS) or the Licensing Board or Certifying Entity. Applicants for licensure or certification renewal on active status must comply with this requirement at least one (1) time every ten (10) years thereafter, unless the licensing board or certifying entity specifically requires more frequent completion under administrative regulations promulgated in accordance with KRS Chapter 13A. NURSES AND PHYSICIANS ARE NO LONGER REQUIRED TO HAVE HIV EDUCATION. The Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS) reviews and approves HIV/AIDS education courses. CHFS does not review courses that applicants have already completed. See date at bottom. If from last month, the newest version of this list can be found on the web at:

SELECT one course designated specifically for your profession, (see the checked boxes by each course)
DID YOU KNOW? Every day, another person becomes infected with HIV in Kentucky. Yet testing is not timely.
Example: The boxes below show that the course would be valid only for Nurses.
NOTE: Courses offering CME credits for Physicians and ACPE credits for Pharmacists are indicated. However, no special accreditations are required by the licensure boards for CHFS-approved courses. 2.
CONTACT the course provider to enlist in or to order the course you have chosen. If the course is offered on the Internet, the web site is listed for your assistance.
3.
COMPLETE the course and return the post-test to the provider. Remind the provider that you are completing the course to meet your Kentucky licensure requirements.
4.
If you are applying for your initial license, send a copy of the certificate issued by the provider to your licensure board (see next page). If you are applying for license renewal, contact your board for their requirements.
5.

Between January 1, 2003 and June 30, 2013 there have been a total of 1,586 HIV infections reported in Kentucky. Of these infections, 58% were concurrently diagnosed with AIDS during the same calendar month as the initial HIV diagnosis (meaning many of them have been infected, and infectious to others, for 10 or more years). CDC recommends that HIV screening be a default part of routine clinical care in all Kentucky health care settings with the patient having the right to opt-out.
