KIDS’ COLLEGE is a summer enrichment program for students who will be completing the first through sixth grade this spring. The curriculum has been developed to offer courses for introduction and enhancement rather than for in-depth study. Every year, over 1,000 children participate in Kids’ College. The Kids’ College staff is looking forward to a very successful program of fun and enriching classes. This year classes will be offered off campus through COM Aquatics, Inc., and one week at Midland Community Theater. Morning camps held on the Midland College campus are Lego Logo/Mania and Sciensational Workshops. At Midland College, three class periods are offered each afternoon, Monday through Thursday, as Midland College is closed on Friday. Students can spend an hour and a half or the entire afternoon with us. Kids’ College registration will not be taken by phone. Registration questions can go to the Continuing Education office at (432) 685-4518.

www.midland.edu/kidscollege Online Registration Online registration will increase a student’s chances of getting into their favorite class(es). The date for online registration is Monday, April 2, at 9:00 a.m. Payment is due at the time of registration, which will ensure your child will be in the class of their choice. Lack of payment will result in child being dropped from course(s).

Pre-admission Forms In order to register online, pre-admission forms must be completed and received by the Kids’ College office, prior to registering online. Pre-admission forms will be accepted beginning Monday, March 5. It is preferred that you submit this form electronically at www.midland.edu/kidscollege or complete in full and return to Midland College Registrar’s office or Continuing Education office both located at the Scharbauer Student Center, 3600 N. Garfield or fax to (432) 685-6412.

Midland Community Theatre - Session I, week one (June 11 - 14) Please enroll your child in this program if your child attends Midland Community Theatre in the morning and plans to attend Kids’ College in the afternoon. Parent Permission form must be submitted in order to ride the bus. Kids can bring a lunch or enroll in the lunch program by paying for a four-day session.

Each Kids’ College class is $45 with supply fees that range from $5 to $25. Prices for COM Aquatics, Midland Community Theater, Lego Logo/Mania, and Sciensational Workshop classes will differ.

Student’s Grade Level To be eligible for Kids’ College, students must have finished grades 1st through 6th in school year 2011-2012. No exceptions will be made. Drop-off/Pick-up

Snack

Carpool will be the located in the Allison Fine Arts parking lot. A map is available online at www.midland.edu/kidscollege at the Continuing Education office, or at the Registrar’s office. Please make sure that your child knows their schedule. We ask that all children go to carpool and not wait at other locations on campus. If you must park and pick up your child, please assist Kids’ College staff and wait for the flow of traffic to stop before stepping into the line of traffic. Security is essential to the safety of your children during Kids’ College and we appreciate your cooperation. Campus police officers will assist Kids’ College staff with traffic and your patience and cooperation is appreciated. Carpool will begin at 12:15 p.m. Staff will not be available before this time and we ask that you do not leave your child unattended. Last pick-up of the day will begin as soon as all children are at the pick-up site, which is usually 5:10 p.m.

Conduct

Since the purpose of Kids’ College is to provide an enrichment program, proper standards of conduct are necessary to protect the health, safety and well-being of all Kids’ College students. • Behavior that might interfere with the educational process is unacceptable. • Students will be respectful of other students and staff. • Students will be careful with college equipment, property, and the property of other students. • Safety of students is our first responsibility. Students MAY NOT GO ANYWHERE on campus without being accompanied by a staff member. • Parents will be contacted if their child is involved in any unacceptable situations during the day. If you have been contacted due to unacceptable behavior, you will be asked to pick up your child. • Staff members, have the right, at any time, to exclude any child from activities due to failure or inability to follow, as directed, any and all rules and/or policies for participants.

Health Concerns Kids’ College Coordinators have completed the requirements for Standard First Aid, Adult, Child & Infant CPR, Epi-Auto Injector, and Asthma Inhaler. Training was coordinated through the American Red Cross. If you have any concerns regarding your child’s health, please visit with the Kids’ College Associate Director at (432) 685-4724. Children with food allergies are advised not to enroll in a cooking class.

Schedules and Name Tags Since registration is online, Kids’ College will not print and mail class schedules, therefore, please print a copy of your child’s schedule at the time of registration. Please make sure that your child knows their class schedule before attending Kids’ College. In case of inclement weather, please keep a copy of this schedule so you will know the class and building your child is located in. Children will be given nametags during the first Kids’ College class. Nametags include a list of classes with room numbers and building names. Students are encouraged to wear their nametags for the duration, as this assists the Kids’ College staff.

Clothing

Students should dress in casual play clothes, with care given to appropriate clothing for special classes. If your child is in basketball or PE & More, they must wear tennis/running shoes to participate. Sandals and flip flops are not allowed on gym floors.

There will be a break between the second and third classes to allow for class changes and an organized “group” refreshment break.

Lost and Found

All lost and found articles will be located in the Kids’ College office in Portable Building 7A or call (432) 686-4242.

T-shirts

Shirts will be given to all students in the 2:10 class on Tuesday of the second week of each Kids’ College session. If you are not enrolled in a 2:10 class, please pick up a t-shirt at the Kids’ College office on the second Wednesday of classes. Kids’ College office is located in Portable Building 7A or call (432) 686-4242. T-shirts cannot be replaced if students lose them. We encourage all students to wear their t-shirt on the last day of classes in each session. If you are enrolled in all Kids’ College sessions, you will receive one t-shirt during the first session.

The Department of Continuing Education’s mission is to provide to the diverse populations of Midland College’s community, quality, life-long educational opportunities for professional development and personal enrichment. The Community Programs Continuing Education (CPCE) Department has a long history of providing learning opportunities in the community. Courses occur throughout the year, vary in duration and occur on and off campus. Courses provided fall under three categories:

Personal Enrichment courses include dance, music lessons, drawing, painting, language, health and fitness and other special interest courses. College Classics is a program that provides a low cost, noncredit, opportunity for citizens fifty and over to broaden their knowledge in areas of interest in an informal educational setting. Students are charged a one-time fee of $25 to enroll in as many classes as they wish. We will learn how to do the sport of cup stacking or speed stacking as it may be known to some. We will start with the very basic steps and finish with the complete “Cycle Stack” which is the ultimate challenge. This is an all-level course, so if you have never done any cup stacking or if you have and think you are a master stacker, you can all join in on the fun. Archery I Aspen Proctor In this fun class, you will learn the basics and proper techniques of shooting a bow and arrow. You will also learn safety, form and consistency. Students will need eight arrows and a bow each with their initials or name. Options for the bow can be found at Big 5 or Academy. Highly recommended bow is the Barnet “Lil Sioux” Recurve Bow Set ($19.99), or the Barnet “Lil Banshee” Bow Set ($29.99) or equivalents to these two options. No Crossbows! Midland Community Theatre’s Summer Theatre School 2012

“A Cinematic Summer” Travel through time to far away places with such stories as The Time Warp Trio, Wishbone, and A Wrinkle In Time inspiring our journey. Join the Education Department at Midland Community Theatre and learn film acting basics through this unique project. Students involved in “A Cinematic Summer” will work to create film shorts with a time travel theme. Once post production is completed by the education staff, students will receive their own copy of the completed films to share with family and friends.
