ilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) continues his journey with Wizard Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen) and 13 Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage), on an epic quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain and the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor. H av i ng su r v ive d t h e b eg i n n i ng of t h ei r unexpected journey, the company leaves the Carrock and continues east to the edge of the forest of Mirkwood. They encounter the skin-changer Beorn, who helps them in their journey. Gandalf leaves before the others enter Mirkwood, as he suspects a greater evil returning to Middle Earth. He enters Dol Guldur, a hill in Mirkwood, and discovers the shocking true identity of its ruler.
