The Capitola Review, in conjunction with the Driftless Film Festival are pleased to announce the Midwest Premier of Walker Percy: A Documentary Film, by Director Win Riley, Saturday, May 7, 2011, at 7:30 p.m. at the historic Mineral Point Opera House. In addition to showing this insightful, award-winning documentary of one of the most influential American writers and philosophers of the 20th Century, Director Win Riley will be present for a Question and Answer session with audience members after the screening. In a rare television interview in 1980, Walker Percy said his concerns as a writer were with “a theory of man, man as more than organism, more than consumer––man the wayfarer, man the pilgrim, man in transit, on a journey.” This one-hour program looks at Percy’s own journey, and is framed as a narrative about his life and ideas. Three years in the making, Walker Percy: A Documentary Film follows Percy’s life from his youth in Alabama—where he was first confronted by his family’s history of depression—to his prolonged hospitalizations for tuberculosis, and his eventual success as a novelist. Interviewees discuss Walker’s thoughts on philosophy, literature, and faith. Win Riley is a writer, producer, and director whose previous work includes the highly acclaimed documentary on Mississippi artist, Walter Anderson. His most recent work, Walker Percy: A Documentary Film, has been selected by PBS and is slated for an autumn presentation. Win Riley lives in New Orleans. Tickets for this event are $7 for adults and $6 for students with an ID. Tickets can be purchased at the door, Berget’s Jewelers (608.987.3218), or online at www.brownpaperticket.com (under Mineral Point Opera House).
