Short description Ectomycorrhizae regularly monopodial-pinnate, orange, smooth, outer mantle layers pseudoparenchymatous, with irregular shaped cells, bearing a hypha! net with gelatinous matrix, middle mantle layers pseudoparenchymatous, with irregularly shaped cells, all septa simple. Morphological characters (Fig. 2d): Mycorrlzizal systems solitary, up to II mm long, simple or regularly monopodial-pinnate to monopodial-pyramidal. -Main axes 0.3-0.4(0.5) mm diam. - Unramified ends straight, up to 3 mm long and 0.2-0.3 mm diam., orange. -Surface of unramified ends smooth. - Rlzizomorphs not found. Anatomical characters of mantle in plan views (Figs. I, 2a-c): Hypha! walls hyaline, yellowish, smooth, ca. 0.3 J.lm thick; clamps lacking. - Outer mantle layers (Figs. I, 2a) pseudoparenchymatous, covered by a hypha! net embedded in a distinct gelatinous matrix (mantle type Q, AGERER 1987-1998, 1991, 1995); net often with cruciform branching pattern (Fig. I a, asterisks), net-hyphae straight, abundantly branched, 8-90 J.lm long and 4-6 J.lm diam.; walls very thin (
