ECCE 2015 Examination for the Certificate of Competency in English University of Michigan What is the ECCE? The ECCE (Examination for the Certificate of Competency in English) is an official English language examination offered by the University of Michigan. The exam measures competency in English at an upper-intermediate level, and is a North American alternative to the Cambridge First Certificate Exam. Why should I take the ECCE? The ECCE certifies English ability for people who have not yet reached the proficiency level. It is useful as proof of English skills when seeking employment. Who should take the ECCE? The ECCE is an upper-intermediate level examination. We recommend the exam for teens who have completed the Teen Competency level or adults who have completed Upper Intermediate Mastery. What does the ECCE consist of? Listening Grammar, Vocabulary and Reading Composition Oral Interview How can I prepare for the ECCE? The IEN offers a 30-hour preparatory course to help students prepare for the exam by working on exam strategies and skills. Students must have completed Upper Intermediate Mastery to take the course. The course is offered from January to March, 2015. The preparatory course is meant to help students prepare for the exam only. It cannot serve as a substitute for any other IEN course. We also offer the ECCE Exam Booster for students wanting to brush up before the exam at the Multimedia Center. The course is approx. 10 hours online and 2 hours face-to-face with a teacher.
