Educational Interests and Career Choice among Secondary School Students in Georgia Authors : Anastasia Kitiashvili, Tamar Abashidze Abstract : The aim of this article is to study educational interests and career choice among secondary school students in Georgia. Research was also focused on the relationship between various psycho-social characteristics of the students, their educational interests and career choice. The research covers 350 surveyed students at the basic level of education; the data for this study was collected using questionnaire. The research reveals that pupils have more positive attitudes towards higher education than vocational education. Majority of them are planning to continue their study in the high education. The research showed that students made decisions on their own, followed by influence of parents. There is very limited influence of vocational guidance or counseling services. VET is not a popular or prestige education among the surveyed students. Most popular professions for the students are related to higher education. There was not found any significant relationship between self-esteem or locus control of students and their career choice. No important gender differences were found either. The research is limited to Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, however, it provides a basis for introducing educational interventions for students. In addition, the research findings can be used as a basis for more comprehensive research in this field. Keywords : Educational interests, Career Choice
