Citrus variegated chlorosis (CVC) has affected almost all common sweet orange varieties regardless of the rootstock used. In our other work, seedling resistance or tolerance of 20 rootstocks was tested. Some of these rootstocks were resistant, some tolerant and others sensitive to the disease. In this study, CVC-affected twigs of Pera sweet orange (c. sinensis (L.) Osbeck), one of the com:nercially most important citrus varieties in Brazilian citriculture, were grafted on seedlings of the 20 rootstocks. For each rootstock, four grafted plants were kept in a greenhouse, and four plants in an open area. All the grafted plants began to show typical CVC symptoms and tested positive in the dot immunobinding assays three months after grafting. There were differences in leaf symptom severity among the plants grafted on different rootstocks, and the plants on Sun Shu Sha Kat, Sunki, Rangpur lime and Volkamer lemon showed symptoms earlier than those on trifoliate orange and Troyer citrange. The scion-rootstock combinations Tukey of Pera sweet orange with Sun Shu Sha Kat, Sunki, Rangpur lime, Volkamer lemon, Swingle citrumelo, Rough lemon and Oneco mandarin were more susceptible to CVC than other combinations.
