Notes: 1. The following are not allowed to be brought into College: electric fires, electric guitars, electric irons, refrigerators, electric (or gas) cooking appliances other than a kettle. 2. NO COOKING IS ALLOWED IN ROOMS OTHER THAN BOILING KETTLES AND THIS CONCESSION MAY BE WITHDRAWN IF FIRE/SMOKE ALARMS ARE ACTIVATED. 3. Each appliance must be fitted with a 13 amp plug top BS1361 with sleeved pins and a fuse not exceeding 13 amps. Plugs on radios, lamps and other lightly loaded appliances should be fitted with 3 amp or 5 amp fuses. Two or three plug adaptors must not be used; a 13 amp fused multipoint socket or master plug must be used for more than one appliance. 4. If you have a television you should provide your own licences, as the College does not have a licence to cover TV sets in individual student rooms. 5. Appliances must comply with the Electrical Regulations on the reverse side of this form. PLEASE READ THESE. August 2012

BRASENOSE COLLEGE ELECTRICAL REGULATIONS

1. There is an obligation on the College to control all electrical appliances connected to its electrical systems. (Health and Safety Executive Regulations 1989). 2. Anyone bringing electrical appliances into College must abide by these regulations. An ELECTRICAL APPLIANCE REGISTRATION FORM (see overleaf) must be completed and only registered appliances approved by the College may be connected to the College’s electrical systems. 3. Each appliance must be registered and the model number and serial number (if available) recorded. Every appliance must carry the appropriate British Standard number of Kitemark. The plug top must also carry the relevant BS number 1363 and be of the safety sleeve type. 4. The HSE Regulations that apply include: (a) HSE GS 23 Electrical safety in schools. (b) HSE GS 37 Flexible leads, plugs and sockets. (c) HSE PM 32 The safe use of Portable Electrical Apparatus. 5. THE COLLEGE’S DECISION ON THE USE OF AN APPLIANCE IS FINAL ALL ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT BROUGHT IN TO COLLEGE ACCOMMODATION MUST BE TESTED AND CERTIFIED BEFORE YOU ENTER COLLEGE. MOST ELECTRICIANS CAN PERFORM SUCH TESTING.
