EXPLANATION OF AGREEMENT BETWEEN SAN DIEGO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT AND BETH HARBISON, CONSULTANT August 6, 2002 PARTIES TO THE AGREEMENT:

San Diego Unified School District and Beth Harbison

AGREEMENT SUMMARY:

The contract being submitted for board approval will provide consultant services of Beth Harbison to work with the District’s Institute for Learning staff on format and content of staff developer/peer coach training. Present theory, the approaches outlined in the San Diego Literacy Framework, and coaching models to District staff developers/peer coaches at the middle and high school levels may also provide consulting services for schools choosing to buy services.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Beth Harbison works as a professional developer for the Community School and Harbor International School in New York. Mrs. Harbison is an adjunct professor for the Teachers College at Columbia University as well as at Queens College, City University in New York. Mrs. Harbison will be working with the institute for Learning, Literacy Department on the content, organization, and presentation of the Double Period Literacy model (Genre Studies) course offered for middle school and senior high school teachers and administrators during the school year and Summer Literacy Institutes. The courses will include demonstration lessons with students, and the participation of teachers and administrators in a readers and writers workshop. Participants will learn strategies that will engage students and accelerate their reading progress.
