An exhibition of works from, past, present & community members of Holy Spirit College – Bellambi

On Wednesday 4th December at 6pm Holy Spirit College will be launching their first public exhibition of artworks of past, present & community members of Holy Spirit College. The exhibition will run until Sunday 15th December 2013. The aim is to celebrate the Visual Arts and how many of our College community have established a career path in the arts. For many students their passion is sparked in the classroom. The exhibition is a culmination of both past and present students’ work - providing them a public platform to promote and display their talents. Holy Spirit College has developed an Artist in Residence program in which a local artist works with our students in the classroom. This program has been running for 3 years and is highly successful in demystifying the role of an artist in our community as well as providing students with access to someone working in the field.

The exhibition is comprised of the current students’ works including our graduating Year 12 class ‘Body of Works’, parents and community members, as well as past students who have pursued a career in the visual arts. Information regarding their established businesses will also be on display. Holy Spirit College has a number of successful artists in the history of the College including ‘Runners up’ in the Archibald Prize (Paul Ryan, Mitchel Cairns) and Winner of the 2012 Brett Whiteley Traveling Art Scholarship (Mitchel Cairns). As well students have been exhibited in Art Express and numerous national art competitions including Indigenous Reconciliation Art Challenge (Ben Oakley 2011). The College has local Aboriginal artist Kevin Butler in the role of Aboriginal Education Assistant who works with our indigenous school community enriching our artist experiences with a practicing artist. Opening Event: 6pm Wednesday 4th December. Free, all welcome. Show runs till Sunday 15th of December at 4pm.
