Automatic forward/reverse Giving the joystick a quick tap to the left is all that is necessary to change driving direction from forward to reverse or vice versa. The Vario decelerates to a standstill by itself and then accelerates efficiently, without jerking, in the opposite direction. There's more: the driver can set the ratio between forward and reverse speeds according to his needs. This reduces the time necessary for frequent manoeuvres considerably. Active safety To guard against operating errors, the Fendt engineers have built an activating control onto the top of the joystick. For reasons of safety, it has to be pressed for certain driving functions, for example, start-up from standstill or for automatic forward/reverse shifting with the joystick.

Fendt Vario – better than power shift transmissions The steplessly variable speeds allow you to utilise performance reserves that aren't even available to modern power shift transmissions. With conventional transmissions you are always one gear too high or low – because of the gear steps. With the Vario, you can utilize the power reserves hidden in the areas between the steps. That means uninterrupted tractive power. Vario – the ingenious concept The Fendt Vario is a genuine stepless drive. Fendt engineers have exhausted the potential of powersplitting persistently, using special efficiency-enhanced large-sized hydrostats. Smooth and jerk-free acceleration is possible over the entire travel speed range. The 50 kph top speed can be attained and maintained at a reduced engine speed of 1700 rpm. That provides maximum efficiency over the entire travel speed range.

The electrohydraulic power lift control combines maximum work quality with superb operating comfort, which reduces stress on the driver. Automatic functions are integrated. The newest EPC-C generation is incorporated in the tractor diagnostics.

Rear EPC for top-quality work results in combined operations For many years, features such as operator comfort, an extensive range of controls and the logical layout of the EPC have become indispensable to the Fendt-driver in his daily routine. Plough or seed drill are electronically controlled with sensitive accuracy in the set working position and without the constant use of manual controls. The rotary buttons for depth control and the rapid lift controls are ergonomically integrated in the control console. All front implements can be conveniently controlled with a control valve.

EPC via the Vario terminal The EPC is selected by pressing the EPC sub-menu function key on the Vario terminal. Lift height, lowering speed and position-draft mixed control are steplessly and accurately controlled with the finely adjustable rotary buttons.The selected values can be read off the indicator bars. In this way, the front and rear power lift can be controlled simply and logically. EPC for added value and relief of driver stress This new EPC-C generation is incorporated in the tractor diagnostic system. The EPC-C automatically monitors itself through digital signal processing and ensures operational safety. The integrated shock-load stabilising works like an electronically controlled shock absorber. Even with rear-mounted implements, the driver can drive over paved and unpaved roads quietly, quickly and with a high degree of driving safety. Practical PTO technology The PTO‘s can be controlled easily with the push buttons on the control console and the rear PTO can also be controlled conveniently from outside.

These engines build a perfect synthesis with the Vario transmission, since the stepless drive allows the high-tech engines constant operation in the optimum range. While others have to shift back, the new Vario Farmer requires no gear shifting, has more power and uses less fuel. A combination of power and intelligence Fendt utilises a combination of 4valve technology, 6-hole injection nozzle and a highly efficient injection system (pump-line-nozzle) with an injection pressure of up to 1400 bar. The net result is more power combined with less fuel consumption and less noise. Two intake valves and two exhaust valves ensure optimum cylinder charging and a more rapid gas exchange, especially with high loads. Single injection pumps enclosed within the crankcase, flexible mounting of the engine and a low rated speed of only 2100 rpm culminate in a particularly quiet-running power unit.

The perfect drive unit as demonstrated in an acceleration test: from 0 to 50 kph in just 15 seconds! How is that possible? Power splitting accelerates the 411 with the full power of 118 HP, while the engine runs with optimum engine speed and maximum efficiency.

VARIO – LAYOUT AND OPERATION: SIMPLE AND ROBUST Vario allows you to change your travel speed from 20 metres per hour to 50 km/h truly steplessly. No more gear shifting. Unlike pure hydrostatic drives, the Vario drive lets you work with a very high degree of efficiency – as high as that of a powershift transmission. The secret lies in power splitting and hydrostats with unparalleled efficiency.

Hydraulic transmission section The hydraulic drive unit consists of a hydraulic pump and a hydraulic motor with a unique displacement angle of 45 degrees. Depending on the position of the in-unison controlled hydrostatic units (pump and motor), the driving speed is regulated steplessly.

Power splitting is an intelligent combination of mechanics and hydrostatics. The engine output is split into a mechanical and a hydrostatic section by a planetary gear. Only the hydraulic branch controls the system. Both power trains are consolidated in the collecting shaft.

Reverse travel The hydraulic pump is just swung out in the opposite direction. No more power draining mechanical forward/reverse shifting. The secret of the Fendt Vario-Drive Since the Vario drive uses large hydrostatic units, the complete travel speed range from 0.02 to 50 kph can be covered by just 2 travel speeds. This, together with the exclusive 45 degree displacement angle, results in new dimensions in efficiency. Starting with the Vario When starting, the major part of the engine output flows over the hydrostatic branch. The efficient interplay between the mechanical and hydrostatic sections are reflected in high acceleration values. A STEP AHEADDURCH VORSPRUNG WITH THE NEW CHASSIS FAHRWERKSTECHNOLOGY TECHNOLOGIE Thanks to its award-winning chassis technology, the Vario 400 offers driving comfort and safety on the level of commercial vehicles. Fendt has over 10 years of experience in the series production of suspension systems. The lockable front axle suspension permits payload-independent automatic levelling – uneven ground conditions are detected and cancelled out. At the same time, the active shock load stabilising system prevents vehicle bounce when driving with rearmounted implements. Driving and working comfort like a lorry

torsion free but without extra weight, the Vario 400 has less gross vehicle weight on the ground than other tractors in its class – a tractor with an ideal weight. Designed for a 3.8 tonne payload (9 tonne permissible all-up weight), the Farmer excels with excellent in-field efficiency and flexibility in all operations. At the same time, this concept guarantees optimum manoeuvrability.

Additional features: Front loader and front power lift are easily mounted directly onto the half-frame without the need for extra parts. The suspension reduces vibrations and bounce by 60%. The automatic levelling control allows for a constant, high degree of driving comfort, even with high payloads. The front axle suspension can also be locked to master particular work situations, e.g. for precise depth control. Front axle suspension The swing axle centrally located in the swing arm detects un-even surfaces and transmits these findings to the swing arm. The plungers on the cylinder displace oil, activating nitrogen reservoirs which absorb all shocks. The tractor body remains unaffected.

Speed-dependent shock load stabilising system This system acts like a hydraulic shock absorber. Activation can be controlled via the Vario terminal. Even with a rear-mounted implement, the operator enjoys a comfortable and safe ride without a reduction in speed, and most importantly, without stressful bounce, on the road as well as the field track.

The brakes are automatically sprayed with fresh oil every time they are operated. This reduces thermal load to a minimum. PERFECTLY PLANNED HYDRAULIC SYSTEM

The Vario 400’s innovative load-sensing hydraulic system is considered to be one of the most modern available on the market in terms of performance, efficiency and flexibility. The heart of the system comprises a powerful axial-flow variable-displacement pump, the steering, power lift and up to 4 auxiliary control units with up to 110 litres of oil at 200 bar. These deliver up to 6568 kp lift capacity at the rear, and up to 2978 kp lift capacity at the front.

Powerful and saves energy too: The variable delivery pump The variable delivery pump always delivers the precise amount of power needed through pressure and volume control. That increases efficiency. The flow rate of up to 110 l guarantees rapid response and short lifting times even at low engine speeds. Every valve can be set precisely with individual flow control valves. Logical layout and simple operation The controls for the 4 double-acting valves are located well within reach on the right-hand side of the cab next to the driver’s seat. The flow rate (16 to 110 l/min) for each valve is set individually using flow control valves. The 2 control valves, fitted as standard, are regulated with the crossgate lever without having to change grips, which reduces accidental operating errors.

Front loading in control That the Vario 400 has been consequently designed to be a multi-purpose tractor is evident in the ergonomic crossgate lever. The front loader can be controlled easily and precisely with only one lever. The first two valves can be operated proportionally with the crossgate lever into which the 3rd hydraulic circuit (e.g. for the optional bale grab) can be integrated. Fendt front loader for heavyduty operations The superb performance of the Fendt front loader is reflected in its impressive lift capacity as well as its lifting height of 3.9 m. Trailers with a high loading height can be loaded without a problem. Every front loader offers the safety that comes from the fact that these front loaders are especially developed for and carefully adapted to the Farmer range by Fendt.

Mounting and removing: Quick and easy Single-phase mounting and dismounting of the front loader via the cast console is completed in a matter of minutes. Because of the reinforced frame design, the front loader can be mounted by simply using the front axle suspension system – without requiring support at the front and without the use of tractor hydraulics. This also ensures a high degree of working safety. A quick and tool-free mounting and removing system is necessary, if the front loader is really only to be mounted onto the tractor when required for loading operations.
