The FIDIC Centenary Conference will provide an opportunity for consulting engineers, their clients and partners, for politicians and financiers, the media and civil society to gather together to help celebrate the achievements of consulting engineers and to become involved in identifying strategies for broader and more sustainable solutions to global challenges.

The FIDIC Centenary Conference will, over two days, reflect on the achievements of the engineering sector over the past 100 years, and the contributions they have made to improving Quality of Life. The conference will explore the economic, social, cultural and environmental quality of life challenges the world will likely face in the coming years.

Day One of the conference will focus on the challenges and opportunities and day two will focus on potential solutions and strategies, together with strategic partners. Essentially, the first day will reflect on the tremendous progress made with improving our standard of living over the past 100 years, noting what has been achieved, and how; what we have learnt; what has worked well, noting the significant innovations that have been developed.

Day Two will look at what still remains to be done – the global challenges and explore better and more sustainable solutions, together with our partnering organisations. Consulting engineers cannot offer and deliver these solutions alone. Things need to be done differently. The world cannot wait any longer.

Day Three – the FIDIC Business Day – will then focus on some of the tools available and being developed by FIDIC for the industry, to assist in delivering those sustainable solutions. If we accept that Consulting Engineers all seek to improve our Quality of Life, and we understand that FIDIC is the Voice of the infrastructure industry, then all the products and services provided by FIDIC also aim to assist Members and partners in achieving their objectives. The Business Day, through a series of parallel sessions, seminars and workshops, will feature the work of FIDIC through its members, specialised committees, regional groups and partnering organisations to demonstrate the practical application of FIDIC tools in the work of consulting engineering companies. What this special day will also demonstrate is that all FIDIC committees and activities are inter-linked, as part of FIDIC’s Strategic Plan, and its 8 objectives, all aimed at enhancing the environment in which members operate.
