Friends and Family Test The test asks the standard question: How likely are you to recommend our ward/A&E department to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment? Patients use a six point descriptive response scale to answer the questions with the following response categories. Response Category

Patients must be surveyed on the day of discharge or within 48 hours of discharge. We ask our patients the question by means of a patient survey sent to patients’ homes within 48 hours of discharge as we believe this provides the most accurate results. The score is calculated as follows:

The Friends and Family Test will be rolled out to the Rosie Maternity Hospital in October 2013. Also this month, in the same survey in which we asked the friends and family question, 95.3% of patients responded that their expectations of a good hospital had been met or exceeded relating to whether or not they felt safe as a patient, with 95.5% of patients’ expectations being met or exceeded in relation to staff being kind and caring. 93.1% of patients’ expectations were met or exceeded in terms of doctors keeping them informed of their condition or treatment, and 93.9% of our patients responded that in terms of their overall experience, the Trust had met or exceeded their expectations.
